Hi fulham, Welcome to the board. There are a few members who use / have used the POD XT Pro and have produced excellent Shadows sounds, but it also depends on the rest of the equipment you are using with the correct echo patterns, guitar pickups , etc. Kind regards, Chris p.s. Your caps lock seems to be stuck

The XT series of Line 6 PODs are the second generation. I don't know if they can be programmed for the multi-tap Shads type echos, but I will find out soon because I just bought a used XT (bean style) which is due for delivery today. I suspect not but who knows. Regardless, the XT will have usable amp models for direct recording. The PRO is the rack mount version, costs a bit more. Line 6 is currently making the fourth generation PODs, the latest is called a POD HD, which supposedly has considerable sonic improvements over the earlier versions. Third gen was POD X3, which had a bigger screen than the XT and dual channel capability.
Mind you all these "models" are just that, and not the real thing. The model of an AC15 will sound sort of like an AC15 but not exact.
These things can be "abused" as well, and can produce some pretty nasty sounds. I rcall once several years ago I was part of the band hosting a "blues" jam, and I had my 1964 Deluxe Reverb set up on the stage and was letting jammers use it. You have a hard time making that amp sound bad, it's a classic. One guy cam up and plugged a Gen 1 POD into it and dialed in some uber-gain patch which sounded like dog poop. Oh well.......
Another candidate which might be able to produce good shads sounds is the Line 6 Echo Pro.

HI FULHAM (CAPS FOR YOUR BENEFIT),
I OWNED A POD XT AND WAS VERY PLEASED WITH ITS SIMULATED AMP TONES. ITS ECHOES WERE VERY GOOD ALTHOUGH IT COULDN'T RECREATE SOME OF THE MORE COMPLEX SHADS TYPES THAT ARE FOUND IN CHARLIE'S EFTP PATCHES. BASIC ECHOES - NOTHING MORE SOPHISTICATED THAN THAT, BUT I FREQUENTLY COMBINED ONE OR TWO SIMPLE REPEATS WITH THOSE EFTP ONES ON MY MAGICSTOMP IN ORDER TO ADD FURTHER VARIATIONS.
ITS AMP EMULATIONS ARE EXCELLENT - VOX, FENDER ETC ARE ALL THERE AND ADJUSTABLE TO TASTE. IT ALSO HAS SOME USEFUL PEDAL EFFECTS SUCH AS COMPRESSORS ETC AND A VERY RICH AND ROUNDED SURROUND SOUND STEREO REVERB THAT I LOVED.
USING THE ONSCREEN DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE TO CONTROL THE KNOBS ETC WAS MUCH BETTER THAN THE UNIT'S OWN - I FOUND THE POD'S DEEPER MENUS VERY CONFUSING TO ACCESS OR UNDERSTAND WHEREAS SEEING ALL THE DETAIL ON A COMPUTER SCREEN MADE LIFE A LOT SIMPLER.
THE ONLY REASON FOR PARTING WITH IT WAS WHEN I CHANGED TO A MAC THAT HAS GARAGEBAND BUILT IN, WHICH CREATES ALMOST IDENTICAL AMPS, ECHOES, REVERBS ETC SO THE POD BECAME REDUNDANT.
GOOD LITTLE MACHINE FOR ITS PRICE AND THE LATER MODELS HAVE UPPED THEIR GAME A BIT FURTHER AS SOME HAVE SAID ALREADY.
CHEERS, MARTYN

I USE A POD X3 PRO FOR MODELLING AND EFFECTS, FOR WHICH IT IS EXCELLENT (THE AC15 MODEL IS VERY GOOD INDEED). THE DELAYS ARE GOOD, TOO, BUT THEY ARE NOT MULTI-TAP, SO FOR SHADS STUFF I ALSO USE AN ALESIS QUAD GT WITH EFTP.
ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING, THOUGH. IF YOU USE A POD FOR AMP MODELLING IT MUST BE RUN INTO A POWER AMP OR PA THAT WILL NOT COLOUR THE TONE. RUNNING INTO AN ORDINARY GUITAR AMP WILL NOT GIVE YOU THE MODELLED TONE BECAUSE OF THE AMP'S TONE COLOURATION.

HI FULHAM, MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU LET THE MEMBERS KNOW WHAT EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE AT THE MOMENT AND EXPERIENCED MEMBERS, LIKE GRIP AND NOEL ETC, WILL BE ABLE TO ADVISE AS TO WHETHER IT WILL SUIT YOUR SET UP. PAST EXPERIENCE HAS TAUGHT ME THAT BUYING "X" OR "Y" CAN BE A VERY COSTLY MATTER AND OFTEN CAN LEAD TO WASTED MONEY. BEST WISHES, GARRY.

Most of my post are with the POD XT PRO using AC15, AC30, Hiway 100 and Chieftan patches. All excellent sims.
Recommend the rackmount latest POD as it has two very good mic pre's and phantom power.
Mike.
