Can anyone help or advise? No matter how I try whenever I play Foot tapper I can't achieve a sound near to the original recording . Even live versions by Hank himself sound not quite the same. I have EFTP patches on my Zoom G2.1u and they are fine but the Foot tapper tone somehow eludes me. Was the original played on a Strat ? Was the main melody played further up the neck to achieve a thicker sound? Any info would help. Thanks. Regards, John.

My feeling is that it was played on a Burns, as well. From what I can gather elsewhere, the amp would be set dramatically different to the earlier era recordings - bass and treble full up with the cut down to reduce the harshness (earlier era sound seems to be bass/treble fully off) and use the middle pickup (maybe neck)? I'm just guessing at the mo., but it's a sound I'm going to be trying to get in the next few days, so if I have any 'eureka' moments, I'll post back here. Cheers, Julian

Hi John
As I understand the recording technique, there is double tracking on that track. One guitar was played clean the other palm muted. So unless you've got two guitars playing lead you are not going to get that sound.

Hi Julian and Michael, thanks for your advice. I had no idea there was any double tracking on it but you learn something new every day! The closest I can get to the tone believe it or not is on a copy of a Gretsch White Falcon !!! Regards, John.

Go for a bright sound , middle pickup and very lightly mute the strings right on the bridge. Get as close as you can to the sound and - Just play it and have fun. You will never get that perfect sound, go for a good sound, your sound !! George

Thanks George. I think you're right. Sometimes we can beat ourselves up a bit striving for that exact sound! Cheers, John.

I reckon it was played on a strat on the front pickup and as mentioned earlier bass and treble fully up and use the cut control. Kind regards matthew

I thought Burns based on sound, but have learned over the past few days of quite a few that I thought were Burns but are actually a Strat - Foot-tapper, Atlantis, and a couple of others. Learning that the Burns and the Strat weren't as different in sound as I thought. Cheers, Julian
