They do. There are plenty of Hendrix and Clapton Strats! He's almost unheard of in the States, so there's not as big a market for a HBM Strat as you'd think and he played Burns guitars from 64 'til they got nicked in the mid 70s. It's down to marketing. Who's going to buy a HBM Strat? Hank Marvin fans... that's it! Like it or not, to the majority of guitarists even in the UK, Hank Marvin is 'that bloke with the glasses that played in the 60s' and cockney rhyming slang for 'hungry'. If you ran a poll of every guitarist in the UK and asked them to name the best British guitarist ever, the top answers are going to be Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Peter Green, Brian May, Dave Gilmour etc. He probably wouldn't make the top ten. If you took the whole planet, probably wouldn't even be in the top 100. You might not like it, but that's how it is. There are signature guitars in the Fender range of people I've never heard of, but they're there, because they'll sell in the US. Also, because they'd need permission to use his name, legal contracts and pay royalties, the fact that there's a Burns signature model would almost certainly rule the possibility out. Cheers

I remember seeing a short interview on tv with Hank a long time ago possibly in the early 80's when he showed a red Fender Stratocaster which had been presented to him by Fender, and when he described it he said it was the only thing they had ever given him, which at the time almost sounded like a bit of a dig at Fender, maybe they cottoned on to the fact and later collaberated with the signature models?

I don't remember that cerise colour on any Fender ad, (referring to the Squier one), especially on their official logo. It is always red and if that colour was shown on the "proof" before going to press, it would have been withdrawn and corrected.
I wonder if it had been Photoshopped.

Probably not Photoshopped as far as trying to achieve that colour! Nevertheless it must have been affected by some process, possibly the scan. There is a definited purplish hue to the whole pic.

Yes there is Charlie, an overall purplish cast as you suggest. I have a copy of the original and it is most definitely a strong red where it is meant to be. Ian

Probably just a bad scan. My old scanner tints the image as well. I remember that ad appearing in Guitarist magazine in the early 90s.
