What are members opinions on Ernie Ball strings weather the Super Slinky range or individual custom range for quality of sound and tone you read and hear so much about them being the dogs b-----ks but the proof is in the use of them That's why I'm asking this questions of members who purchased and used them specifically. Thanks Pete

Hi Pete. I've currently got Ernie Ball Super Slinky's on my Strat: not through choice though. The chap at the shop who did my recent set-up put them on as he didn't have anything else lying around (or so he said). I'm not a fan of Super Slinky's myself: they don't suit my playing style and I just think they're a bit too thin and weedy. However, I do like Ernie Ball's, and I'm also a fan of RotoSound. I generally use either of these as I think they're good and reliable. Obviously when you first put them on they take a time to stretch and so go out of tune a lot, but once they're 'settled' I find them to be quite excellent.

They're good, reliable strings. I consider them the industry standard, although I personally don't use them.
Bruce uses the "Skinny Top Heavy Bottom" set on his Strats.

Have tried the "beefy" slinkys (12-52). Much prefer D'Addario strings for tone. Have tried various makes but always come back to D'Addario. It's very much a personal thing, and this is just my own choice. If slinkys give you the sound you like, then stick with them. Cheers Richard

The last time I used them was in the late 70s. I played a new set for about 3/4 hour at a gig and by the time the set was finished the strings sounded dead. I haven't given them another chance since then. Everything I tried after that lasted longer. Regards, Charlie

I have tried them and to be honest, I didn't think much of them wether it was my style of playing or what I just don't know I must agree with Charlie they did seem to go dead after a very short while I now use either D'addario XL nickel wound 10/46's or Fender Bullits 10/46's on one Strat and 11/52's on the other(both my Strats have cold rolled steel full weight trem blocks drilled for bullet end strings) don't know if that helps any, but the strings do seems to sound fresher for longer both sets have a plain 3rd have tried wound 3rd cant get along with them.

Kay
