Hello. Does anyone have experience with the Burns Apache. I have read good things about it and how it gets close to the Shadows sound. This is with the noiseless pickups. I am considering buying one but would like to hear from anyone who has experience of it.

Hi Roy
I have a 50th anniversary Apache and it is a truly fantastic guitar. I have to add that mine gets played. Im not a fan of "investments" and nothing leaves me colder than having guitars stored in cases for the sake of future value. as a result, on mine, the gold plate has worn on the tremelo arm and the trem plate covers but then so has it on most of my other guitars. It is a guitar and that is what it does best. sound wise, whilst it is more suited to the "middle" shads sound (63-70) it does a very worthy job at the early stuff and with some EQ can be made to sound very much like a strat. Playing wise, I would rate it as highly as any guitar i own. They do of course have a zero fret which some, myself included, like a lot. others will im sure have different opinions. All Burns guitars as far as i am aware have a zero fret. I had a marquee and it was also a very nice guitar to play. Quality wise, I cant fault mine. It is beautifully made and the attention to detail is second to none. Bottom line... you wont be dissapointed. That said, why not find out if anyone in your neck of the woods has one you could try? Im in central Scotland. If you are nearby you are more than welcome to try mine
Regards Ian

I have a rather rare 50th Anniversary Apache with bird's-eye maple neck and fretboard, and it sounds magnificent. I think a Burns guitar is a must for every real Shadows player or fan.
The Apache does not have noiseless pickups. It has a slightly "hotter" version of the famous Burns Rez-O-MATIC pickups. As far as I know, the Burns "Dream" is equipped with noiseless pickups, which makes it a little more expensive. But both the Apache and the Dream are really awesome guitars.

The later, non-limited edition Apaches do have noiseless pickups, Bojan. I had both the original limited edition Apache and the Burns Dream, both fabulous guitars. In the end, because they were so alike in tone and playability, I sold the Apache and kept the Dream - I preferred the Dream's maple board to the the ebony board on the Apache. I can thoroughly recommend either of those guitars.
