Hi
Over the last week or so there have been numerous occasions when I've clicked on a board or a thread in this forum and IE8 has immediately closed down. It doesn't happen with any other websites, nor does it happen if I use Firefox.
Has anyone else experienced this and can anyone suggest a solution?
Cheers.
Tony

Hi Tony, Simple solution .. get a Mac and use Safari !! Seriously, though .. have you recently installed any new software, or allowed one of those numerous 'updates' that Microsoft are forever sending to install, or visited a website that might have installed or configured an 'add-on' ? If this has only just started happening then it must be down to a recent change somewhere on your computer. I would suggest as step 1, to check your 'restore' options and see if you can restore the computer to a point when you knew all was OK. Even if you haven't set up any restore points yourself, Windows does record restore points occasionally itself, so you might find one there. BTW are you still using Windows 7 or have you migrated to 8. Windows 8 seems to have been another Microsoft disaster and has been bug ridden from the start. Best of luck, Ian

Hi Again,
Tony,
I don't really see the point of downloading yet another browser as suggested if you already have Firefox installed and working OK. I am a great believer of the view that the more applications you install into your PC the more you run the risk of coming up against data corruption or non-compatability problems. Sometimes new installations take over and make amendments to your system and preferences without you knowing about it.
I run tests with several browsers when I am developing my business website, and one thing I find is that Internet Explorer often works differently to the way other browsers do. I, and many other web developers, regard Firefox as the most stable browser that follows the HTML rules to the letter. Internet Explorer often produces unpredictable and unexpected results.
If you have Firefox installed then use that and just forget IE. You can easily import all your favourites and cookies into Firefox from IE so you will lose nothing.
All the best,
Ian

Thanks for your advice, chaps.
Ian - Yes, I have installed new programs recently and I do keep getting Windows updates (I'm still in thestone age by using XP) so I suppose it's possible that something in there has caused the problem but I still think it strange that it only affects this site.
Old habits die hard and I've always used IE, despite its regular glitches but I'm now making the effort to use Firefox instead.
Cheers.
Tony

Try clearing your cache before attempting anything more drastic, when ever I have issues it's mostly caused by cookies and cache issues. If you don't know how to do this, check out the link. kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.htmlI hope you find a solution to your issue. all the best Dave

I wish I was still in the stone age with XP, it's ten times better than 7 or 8!
