Hi there, does anyone know where I can get hold of a CIJ (not MIJ) fender strat in fiesta red? they are banned for import in the usa because they are too close in quality to the usa strats. thanks, Nick

If you get offered one, grab it.
I have one of the last Japan Custom Shop strats and it's superb and beats most USA strats hands down.

I might be wrong here, but I think there is little or no difference between MIJ and CIJ guitars. The change came about because MIJ were made by one manufacturer whereas CIJ were made from components made in other Japanese plants because the original makers had taken on another contract. The main difference to look for in Fender Japan guitars are what woods the guitar is made from, what pickups are used (USA or Japanese) and if the bridge etc are USA quality. I have owned a couple of the 54 reissue Japan Strats from 2004 and they were quite superb. At that time you could get one for around £500. A steal. They had ash bodies and Fender USA Custom Shop pickups.
