Hello All, Just wondering if any one is using Windows 8? It changes your MP3 in to HP Connected Music. Also problems opening a Box file. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers Gus.

Hi Gus, You've bought an HP computer that is why HP Connected Music has appeared; either you registered for it or it was registered when set up for you. It doesn't have anything directly to do with Windows 8 because Windows Media Player in Windows 8 is the same as it was in Windows 7. Bill Hello All, Just wondering if any one is using Windows 8? It changes your MP3 in to HP Connected Music. Also problems opening a Box file. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers Gus.

Hello Peter, Chris and Bill, Thank you all for your response. Chris I did exactly as you said and Bingo it works. Thanks so much. I also found that I had to download Mozilla Fire Fox in order to be able to operate Box.com. With Kind Regards Gus.

Hi Didier and Dick, Like you I also use DIY PC's and was a die-hard XP Pro fan. It took about 10 yrs but with SP3 MS finally managed to make XP reasonably stable.
However, for my latest PC I decided to try Win7 (Home edition) 32 bit. I had many drivers, plugins etc that only work with 32 bit and was expecting issues with some of them but .... not a single problem.
Set all the eye candy rubbish to "classic", and grudgingly I have to admit that Win 7 is faster, simpler and more stable than XP.
The Microsoft hierarchy must also have noticed this and so demanded Win 8 to start the whole angst cycle again.
No comment on 64 bit except lots of folks are using a semi trailer to pick up a bottle of milk from the local shop !!
cheers George

No comment on 64 bit except lots of folks are using a semi trailer to pick up a bottle of milk from the local shop !! LOL!! Ditto. I still run XP Home 32bit on my desktop and my wife's PC and it carries on faithfully doing what we need it to do. However, I do admit to having been persuaded down the Windows 7 route on 2 laptops - one is stationed in the 'music room' for all things audio, and the other serves as my all powerful all singing 64 bit Pro gaming beast (Flight Simulation is another of my hobbies). No regrets here. As has been said, once you get rid of the unnecessary clutter, Windows 7 is actually a very capable and stable (more so than XP) operating system. Despite all their advertising attempts to persuade us to jump again it will be a cold day in hades before Windows 8 appears in this house. I like to have control and not have that control imposed on me. Fine, I suppose, for tablets but not on PCs and workstations. My local branch of Sainsbury's is still running XP Pro which, I believe I read somewhere, handles networks much better than even Windows 7. Microsoft have lost their way on this one and are likely to pay the price for having dragged their feet as the likes of Apple power on into the future. I suspect W8 will go the same way as Vista. Windows 9/10, hopefully, will turn out to be a very different animal. Thankfully, we have Windows 7 and even Windows XP will continue to run after MS support is withdrawn early next year. If you have software installed and doing everything you require of it then why worry about having to have the 'latest and greatest'? Yes developers will also drop support for XP, eventually, but the user base worldwide remains sufficiently large (currently estimated to be around 500 million) that this is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Also, on the plus side, it is conceivable that the hackers will slowly start to ignore XP freeing us of the need to keep plugging those security loopholes (or you could just isolate your machine from the internet). Yes, XP remains a very capable operating system. Perhaps MS should have considered the further development of a version for the business community instead of ditching it. Mike

I do have win 7 on my laptop & as you say it is stable enough after cutting a lot of the clutter. I'm considering a new "rig" at the moment & it's going to be win7 64bit mainly because the mobo choice for XP Pro is getting almost non existent new (although there's loads of s/h boards around.) It will be set up without explorer & media player though so hopefully will be super stable & fast without those two hungry beasts ;D Dick.

If you are going to buy a ready made pc, you will struggle to find a new one for domestic use without Win 8.
I recently bought a new pc purely because of the 3.5 useable gb ram limit on my old xp machine. I had to use my nephews business account to get a business computer with Win 7 as most businesses aren't changing vast numbers of pc's over. just because Win 8 is here.
The upside if that's what it is, that the new machines for business have Win8 also installed ready to go when needed and can be installed or revert back, but can only use one OS on the machine even with dual booting, so if you want Win 7 64bit you may have to get a business machine before company's like PC World have to stop providing Win 7 OS machines due to Microsoft licensing.
I now have a IBM Lenovo with 16gb ram and Win 7 Professional and Win 8 waiting in the background if I ever need it.
Mike.

All I ever hear from those who part with lots of money for the "Latest Anything" is how full of problems it is. I am NOT exempt - I bought Nexus 7. Flawed genius. It would be a World Beater EXCEPT that they didnt think it through and it spends more than half its life with me TRYING to get it to charge!!! cheers ian

Hello Guys, Thanks for all the feedback. I was really tempted to take the unit back but one of the problems is that any store bought one come with Windows 8. Finally finding my way around it. XP still has to be my favorite. Regards Gus.
