I've just finished recording my 12th backing track CD entitled "Backin' Our Yesterdays". As the title suggests, it includes older numbers dating from the late '50s up to the early '70s and for anyone interested you can see the track listing and listen to soundclips on my webpage :- www.vintage-sounds.co.uk/cds/Tab is available for this CD (and the previous albums) and can be provided for single tracks if desired.

Hi Roger, Please, can I invite you to post this announcement in the Backing Track and Tablature Providers (Members Only) area as well using your Provider Posting facility, as described here: charliehall.proboards.com/thread/14519/important-readcharliehall.proboards.com/thread/14524/provider-listSince the creation of this sub-board a year ago it does seem to have attracted some interest. However, I remain disappointed that to date only one Provider has made use of his entitlement to create a modifiable Provider Post which advertises what he/she has to offer the community. As explained, this unique post can be updated by its creator, the Provider, at any time. This also ensures that your announcements will never get lost as folk stop replying to your thread in the main forums. Perhaps if more Providers who appear on the main list were to do so it would generate greater interest and encourage revisits to this area as folk seek out what's new.Thanks. Kind regards, Mike

Hi Roger, I see you have posted. Actually I was hoping you would post at the foot of this thread (The Provider List, you being one of the Providers) at: charliehall.proboards.com/thread/14524/provider-listThe Provider List is in fact just the first post, owned by me, in the thread and each REPLY to this initial post is owned by a Provider who appears in the main Provider List. If you had posted a Reply under Oswald's post, then that 'Reply' would continue to serve as your unique and modifiable Provider Post, as I have tried to explain. Clearly there has been some confusion and I can see now that this may be one reason as to why others have been deterred from posting. If this is indeed the case then I can only apologise. As you know, any response/reply in any thread on these forums at CH&Fs can only be modified by the poster or a moderator. The proposed restriction of One Modifiable/Editable Post per Provider is a way of ensuring that this particular 'thread' doesn't become cluttered with responses from the rest of the membership. Being able to modify your posted reply at any time is a way of allowing you to update your 'advertisement' as and when it becomes appropriate. I can edit the Provider List since I'm the one who created this initial post in the thread. However, I cannot alter/edit any Provider posts that appear under Provider Posts Follow Below. Each reply belongs to that Provider and only he/she can edit their post whenever they so wish. Assuming, after having waded through all this, you are still prepared to have another go I would suggest you place a title in bold and in a larger font at the head of your post which matches your entry in the PROVIDER LIST at the head of the thread. In your case, it would be: Roger Allcock's 'Vintage Sounds'Oswald hasn't done so, as yet, but perhaps he will after reading this update. Kind regards, Mike

Hi Roger,
Perfect! And thanks for being so patient with me on this one, but I really do feel that all those who have yet to use their 'Provider Post' have been missing a trick. Seems to me to be a good way of keeping everyone informed about what's on offer. And, please do remember that your post can be edited/updated at any time in the future.
Now that you've taken the lead on this one, hopefully others will soon follow.
Best regards, Mike

Hi Mike,
I'm not sure exactly what you had/have in mind but an edited post is not flagged as being 'new' to the members. So while it's a good idea to have the list of providers all in one place, a provider of backing tracks will still have to post a separate new message whenever he/she has something new/different to offer otherwise the only way the members would find out is if they deliberately keep looking at the Provider List thread. So we need both the post that announces something new which can be allowed to drop down the board and the Provider List thread which is permanent.

Hi Bill,
I freely admit that my intention/hope has been to try to modify the behaviour of the membership for the benefit of all concerned. Perhaps I'm being unduly presumptious and expecting too much, but I thought that if the word got around that Providers were advertising what's new in their modifiable posts we would all get into the habit of visiting that area to see what's on offer. However, the point you make is a valid one and may, in the end, be the stumbling block.
Roger kindly did as I asked, but I note that he has elected not to include the announcement about his latest backing track CD. Perhaps he feels the same way you do and perhaps that's why other Providers have not posted over the past year. Posting in this area rather than in the general forums would ensure such advertisements remain live at all times but, there again, perhaps that is not what is wanted. It was just an idea and I'm certainly not expecting any one to feel obliged to change the existing status quo. For the time being the choice remains. Perhaps, as you have suggested, both methods could be employed: a heads up announcement by the Provider in the general area plus/minus an update to their modifiable post or vice versa.
After all, the more traffic going through the Tabs, Chords and Backing Tracks (Members Only) area the greater will be the opportunities for the listed Providers to tempt us with their wares, whether they be offered without charge or otherwise.
However, the absence of a supporting post in the General area might deny the Provider from receiving any feedback, unless these are offered spontaneously. I'm thinking on my feet here, hence all the edits this morning...and afternoon! Lol!
Regards, Mike

I have just received my copy of Roger's new BT Album "Backin' Our Yesterdays", and think it is excellent. It is definitely worth the purchase (+postage) price. Another excellent one, Roger.

Brian
