I have just read an article in the Mail,(Friday 23th June) about Hank's battle with depression. For as much as we can believe stories in any tabloid, this seems quite genuine. I can sympathise with him, being a sufferer myself. Have a read and, see what you think.
Regards Roger

If the date had made more sense I would have thought it could have been because of the thread on this site about the new album. I wonder which year the article was from?

The article was apparently current. I have no idea why the article was published at this time or, if it is a true one. I cant imagine Hank would agree to such a revelation unless it was a relief to do so. Either way, I still sympathise with the guy. I know exactly what he goes through.

Regards Roger Yes - the article was in yesterday's Daily Mail (13 June 2014) in the "Music" section. It was linked to the release of "Hank" and Hank is quoted in it as having made the album while coping with his latest bout of depression. Maybe that's what triggered the journalist to dig back into the past episodes. Cheers Keith

I wish him well whatever happens. People don't understand illness if they cant see a bandage.

Something isn't adding up here. The last year the 23rd June was on a Friday was 2011.

Yes, one wouldn't think Hank suffered. I hope, if true, that it is a mild case. One of our band members withdrew due to depression, but he is trying hard now to reach out and see the positive. Very complex, a chemical imbalance is sometimes the cause.
Hang on in there, Roger.

Thank you Andy. I am hanging on by the skin of my teeth some days(albeit dentures). I am on mild medication and, fight to keep positive. My music and, without being patronising, this site is giving me something to participate in and, enjoy.

I stand corrected Rosemary. It was the 13th of June. Ok, it happened to be a Friday also. Not that had anything to do with anything, I am a believer in life , not mumbo jumbo. It is sad Rosemary because, most people don't understand this illness.

Actually its more common than we realise and according to the NHS, it can afflict all age groups but the elderly more so.

I've been a sufferer for many year's, and when they took me off Seroxat I hit the very bottom, suicidal. But now we have found the best combination of pills, I am pretty stable. Chemical imballance seems to be the cause. Work closely with your doctor and try different treatments till you find the one that suits you. You will know pretty quickly when you find it. Regards, Duncan.

Hi Duncan I seem to be doing ok on sertraline and, a little support form my local mental health support unit. They put me on something (citalopram) years ago, It was dreadful. Now, I'm getting pleasure from my music again and, the friends I have made here, are giving me a new lease of life, for which I thank you all.

Hi Roger I've deleted my post but was just suggesting the date was probably 13th June and not 23rd June as there appeared to be some confusion. It was obviously a typo and no offense intended. Best wishes Rosemary

It's a very common condition, especially amongst the 'artistic'. Throw in an addiction and it can be fatal. It killed a friend of mine.
Never suffered myself, but I have every sympathy for those who do. It's a lot easier to fix a problem when you can see it.
Cheers, Julian

That's true Steve. It does raise awareness and, fellow sufferers gain some comfort from not feeling like "I'm the only one" . I wish him all the luck towards recovery.

Yes Pete, you are right. I do try to reach out to others. It helps them and, it helps me too. Since I became a pensioner officially, I seem to have taken on a different persona. People are more willing to chat and pass the time of day(well, most people). This is great, until they want to borrow money . Cheers Roger

Now Pete, you wouldn't take advantage of a poor old pensioner would you? Things are bad enough for us poor guys living on the breadline as it is. I have only just been given back the lump of coal lent to a dear friend. He hung onto it because he reckons I owed him for the extra strong mint he lent me back in the Winter. Seriously I suppose I am ok with two pensions. My Civil Service pension(for which I did 28 years) comes in handy for those little extras but, I still cant afford that Hank Marvin Strat from the custom shop. Cheers roger

Hi Roger 28year civil service pension can not be that bad.My wife has a 40 year civil service pension as well as being presented with the Imperial Service Medal from GCHQ Cheltenham. Pete PS:I can not afford a custom Strat,Still I have Squier CV 50's which I enjoy playing immensely.

GCHQ eh? Got any secrets? I have a VC 50s strat too. I am currently trying to get a decent sound out of a Blacktop HH strat. I bought a Fender Hank Marvin Signature Strat(MIM) years ago but, to be honest, I think my Squier beats it for playability. For my sins, I have a collection of around thirty(30) guitars I have acquired over many years. I often wonder what they are worth. Cheers roger
