I'm heartbroken! 4Shared have banned my Account forever for daring to load up files that included the name Hank Marvin in the title - "Absolutely Hank Marvin" and "Guitar Man ( Hank Marvin version)" and also "Hello-Lionel Richie cover-The Shadows" They must have some kind of "bot" that trawls (or should that be "trolls") through files looking for infringements. Or maybe its someone in the business complaining to them about loss of revenue from my minor, amateur efforts.? Who knows. Anyway, only Box.net and Soundclick has any of my sound files now - if anyone is interested. cheers ian

Ian,
I stopped using and stopped listening to other people's sound files if they were users of 4Shared right from the moment 4Shared required you to work with a login and username simply even to listen to anything. It's a pain !!
I'll look forward to hearing some of your sound files from now on then !!
Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian, I have just terminated my account with 4shared for the same reason. Behind the infringement complaints appears to be an entity called IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry).
Just one example of how they work: I uploaded an instrumental to 4shared called "Melissa", a composition from the 60s for a movie also called "Melissa". The copyright for this title has expired. Nevertheless, I got banned from 4shared because IFPI claimed a copyright infringement for a song written by Eric Clapton in the 90s also called "Melissa". In other words, they don't even bother to listen to a recording whether it is the piece of music they claim it to be.
Even worse, once on their black list (although for no good reason), I received complaints in regular intervals, got "banned" and - after counter notice from my end - "unbanned" after a few days. But all my files were gone. Finally I got sick of it and terminated my account with 4shared.
Regards,
Joachim

I came across this site recently that seems to be quick, easy to use and free, with no need to register if you just want to upload and share MP3s picosong.com/

Hi ALl thanks for the notes. The problem with 4Shred is that it includes the title in its hyperlink so the roving bots with the USA PRS can find them and then -"Yer Barred"!! Box is good and, Sandra - the picosong looks great - I'll give that a try. cheers ian

I stopped using 4shared when they suddenly insisted on making me listen to tedious advertisements before they'd play the file. If anyone posts files to that site, I usually try it (they don't always run the ad first) but if an ad starts running I immediately come out of it and don't bother trying again. I'ver been using Box ever since and closed my 4shared account.

for those who are comfortable tinkering with their windows operating system, you can add a list of known ad servers to your hosts file and redirect them to nothing, there is a ready made hosts file that you can use here winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
it stops most ads from appearing as you browse the net, it's great for youtube loading straight into the video without ads first, works on much more too.

Dear Ian It does not matter to me where you put the songs. If I have the link I listen anyway. Good luck. And go on with posting you songs. I love it. Greets Tonnie

Got an email this morning from 4shared telling me, "This is your FIRST warning of copyright infringement under the three-strike policy. In case you continue violating 4shared Copyright Policy, your account will be banned.". I have therefore banned myself and deleted everything! Have also uploaded to picsong following Sandra's suggestion - it has some limitations but it is very easy to upload to.

Please read Picosong TOS.. It says: Picosong may terminate your access to all or any part of the Website at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, effective immediately.. And nearly all of those sites say the same thing. Hum! It seems that there no engagements by them..and no protection whatsoever for you. Sheendigs
