Hey guys,
I want to get some 'Shadows' reverb tone, and consider purchase of TC Hall of Fame reverb pedal. Will it do the job? Does Hank using reverb?
Currently I own Zoom508, Fender Strat, Fender Mustang V2 Amp (Connected to FUSE as well).
Any advices?

Hank does not use reverb, but it was added by the studio on many recordings. The right type of echo can sound a lot like reverb some of the time. I think you could play live with good echo sounds and not need reverb. Adding a little reverb can be nice for recording. I don't know much about the TC Hall Of Fame reverb pedal. TC is known as a quality brand so it should be worth trying one. Regards, Charlie

On the Shadows' early recordings, the added reverb came from the famous "echo chamber" in the Abeey Road studio.
So if you find an echo device which emulates it, it should be OK, but it's not needed for live playing, just add some to taste when recording, which can be done afterward. Many audio recording softwares contain reverb effects which can be used for that.

Theme from Shane is a very good example of Abbey Road reverb. Apparently Hank had asked, Norrie Paramour not to use any reverb into the song during mix as he preferred just echo, however, from what I read, Norrie sneaked in a bit of reverb on many tracks behind Hank's back, and on play back Hank liked it but I'm sure he was not always aware this was going on although I'm sure he eventually found out.

I think Norrie Paramour instructed Malcolm to mix in some reverb from what I remember.

Thank you guys... Since I am not recording right now, playing live only, I don't think I will purchase it for now.

I mix in a very small amount of amp reverb with my Q20 when playing live.

Not sure it was the case here is an interesting document about Malcolm Addey first recording : www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov03/articles/classictracks.htmLooks like he had little instructions from Norrie Paramor. It must have been the same later. Didier
