Great as his reputation is, maybe that time has come to put his mic back in the box, I was embarrassed for him!

Yes, sorry, the Palladium, I was cringing when it came to the high notes. The same with Andy Williams.

Hummm well he is out of key yes but its not as bad as i expected. It must be terrible being famous and to be expected to live up to everyones expertaions of you. I remember seeing a interview press confrence with elvis presley 1972 he was asked about his image. He said well image is one thing and a human being is another he said its very hard to live up to a image put it that way. And i thought my god i understand what he ment. To be what everyone thinks of you 24-7 everyday. Must be hard. So to live up to that .and to have it expected of you must be hard to do. So it must be a real let down that arts voice let him down . To people .it cant be easy giving 100% everytime. .rich

Hi Rich, I understand what you're saying but he can keep up the image, but just don't let himself down by singing!...unless he needs the money

there comes a time in every musician life when you have to call it a day, for me it was a pointless exercise , should of just stay away and let people remember them by what the did in the past which was brilliant,

Seeing some of them perform is saddening and it in some way spoils the memories of when they were at the top.

Phil Totally agree Phil,on our local theatre we have artists like Hermans Hermits and The Searchers appearing, but they are old men with grey hair, and usually with only 1 of the original band left. There was a picture in our local paper of one of them, nothing like the memories we have of them when they were on programmes like Top of the Pops. Very sad. Alan

I go to the Fairfield halls in Croydon fairly often I have seen the Hollies with Tony Hicks and Bobbie Elliot still keeping the faith. They are still exceptionally good. Oldies but goodies Still. George Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

My point is that, there are many of the early performers that can still pull it off, ok, if we haven't seen them for a while we get a shock with what they look like now, but we get used to that, but when the performance is not up to it, time to call it a day. By the way, I had an email from an old girlfriend a year ago, just catching up on old times, I sent her a picture of me to her...she didn't recognize me Phil

Phil Re the old girlfriend did you recognise her ? I met up with an old girlfriend not too long ago she was an ex beauty queen but now my goodness I was devistated !! I don't want to say anymore . The point is that sometimes too long ago is just that "too long ago". George Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

Phil Those few words you have said here Phil says so much about what was then and what is now,I can remember the original and although it is the same artist "Art Garfunkel" it did nothing to resemble the original Pete

Hello, I agree that Art Garfunkel was pretty awful but if you want to hear something that is 10 times worse, have a listen to recent concerts of Buddy Greco !. He is still an excellent jazz pianist but his voice went about 20 years ago and still he carries on. He is diabolical. Regards, Derek B

Well I accept that the performance wasn't up to scratch it is refreshing to know some artist still sing live without using pitch correction and other modern vocal tools.

It comes to many vocalists. As was said by Pete,Phil and Derek. Some artists are lucky..they can still get those fantastic notes. If we are going to be brutally honest, some top artists are seriously struggling now. just to name a few that are..Cliff Richard,Elton John,Paul McCartney,Lionel Ritchie ..the list goes on. I was also disappointed whilst watching Art singing "The Sound of Silence" on Sunday evening. I have since found out that he is recovering from paralysis of the vocal cords which caused him to lose his singing voice. He is now recovering from this and part of his recovery is live performance. Apparently the public are made aware of this before watching him perform. I do hope he makes a full recovery as his voice was really something special. However he is only human and even the best of us have our limits.
Regards John.

If you can still get tickets (!) go and see the Moody Blues next year - still giving a top class performance with three 'originals' (post Denny Laine anyway), but for how much longer?! Go while you can and be prepared for a 5 minute standing ovation for Hayward's Nights In White Satin which is fantastic live.
