Hi All, I have been asked by many people over many years, when am I going to put my bt's on the market. To be honest it's all about setting up a website etc. and I don't really have the time. The other way is with cd's and a PayPal request. If I decide to go down that route, I imagine the first batch, maybe 30 or so would be of early Shadows tunes. These bt's are as close to the originals that I can get, the individual instruments in the drum kits for example are tuned, eq'd, panned and have the same type of reverb with pre and post delays as the originals at Abbey Road studio 2, they also have other effects and tricks that might have been included at the time, so they are not just basic drum kits. The bass is setup to sound again as the original, South of the Border to name just one has studio techniques such as panned delay that makes the sound unique. It is, as should be, recorded with a Vox valve amp. The sound changes with the Burns era, Flingel Bunt shows this off to full extent with that dynamic woody sound, and I have also tried to reproduce Bruce's acoustic and electric rhythm, recorded in the same way with a large diaphragm condenser mic, a U87, also used at Abbey Road. Not to forget Norrie Paramor's lush orchestration re-produced as close to the original as I could. Abbey Roads echo chamber plays a big part in a lot of the Shadows early recordings, I was actually in that room last year (shivers ran down my spine ) and I have tried to re-capture that sound with it's natural 1.5 seconds delay, which was artifitially lengthened including pre delay for certain tunes. Quite a lot of these early recordings are not straight forward mixes, they are complex with things going on that you wouldn't expect, putting all this together is what makes the bt real, and what takes all that time! They are not Karaoke quick jobs as usually they take many weeks to produce and then some to refine. There would probably be for each tune, a stereo and mono version, also the option to have Hanks overdubs included, ie. harmonies etc. So, this thread is to just test the water as nothing has yet been decided. Best regards. Phil

Phil
Having heard you play to many of your BTs, I for one would be very keen to take advantage and buy them, particularly if they are for the earlier tunes. Your attention to detail is legendary. I would agree that setting up a website for downloading would be very time consuming and, perhaps, unnecessary if you can burn CDs instead. Would you be prepared to allow them to be ripped, eg to MP3, which would fit my setup better? Even if not, I'd be happy with CDs.
I do hope you get some support for this venture. You have my vote.
Cheers
Keith

Hi Phil. I've been very impressed with the quality of your productions that I've heard to date. I would also be very interested particularly with the earlier numbers. Good luck with this project. Regards Grunfuttock

Hi Phil
Although I have just about every Shadows backing CD that was available,I would be interested in anything you produce.
Would it be too much to hope that you may even include some tunes that were not included previously.
Alan

I would have "some" interest, Phil if CDs were available. The BIG problem with this "industry" is the ease of others being able to rip and distributing your work. I think its the reason Warren Bennett, Dave Robinson etc have stopped - once the CDs were out in the public domain, everyone seemed to have them!! And look at the Rip_offs on the well known auction site!!!! Even my very amateur attempts at BTs have been the backing for various Sound Files over the years, without any acknowledgment (not that I'm after Fame - I doubt they had any idea anyway who had created them.) Good luck, mate. cheers ian

Having my work treated the way you mentioned is not what I would want! Phil

Hi Phil
I think a lot of us would probably have a lot if not all the backing track cd's that are currently available.
In view of this would it be possible to include a track or two of something that has not been previously released.
At least that would make it more interesting for old and new BT collectors.

Hi Phil
Sorry, didn't know it was only the early stuff,i think its all been done by now.
The nice thing about your tracks is they adhere more closely to the speed and feel of the originals, thats why i would be interested.

Hi Alan,
The tracks speeds are synced with the originals right through so there is no mechanical feel to them.

Phil hi phil, unfortunately it is impossible to stop your work being copied and spread across the internet with technology being the way it is these days, but i would purchase from you for your high quality bt's either on cd or via download (without spreading them around the internet!). as for setting up a website to sell them, give me a shout if you need any help. hosting and looking after websites is what i do. sid.

i have to say i've never heard of 'room at the top' and with all the changes that have taken place in wigan since then i would be amazed if the building is even still there, never mind the name of the club! i was yet to have been created in 1967 too
