Hi I have a friend who needs to sell a Strat that belonged to her late husband. She does not live local to me and is poor on computers so has asked me for help in IDing it - and a value. I know that this is difficult but this is the info she has - Its a Fiesta Red (she says) Strat and on the headstock it says - SQUIER and on the reverse - "Crafted in China Designed and backed by Fender"
Serial Number is CGS1106804.
It probably on a couple of years old - maybe 3. I THINK it may be a Classic Vibe 50s but dont know if there is a way that it can be confirmed from the above info. Rob NEVER bought rubbish and he did say that it played as good as his previous Strat - a USA Standard (I think it was) Any ideas on a value if it is, or what an unknown but quaility Squier might fetch? Rob always kept his gear in great condition but the money is now needed bu his family and I said I would ask our Oracle members here for advice. Cheers ian

As you know I am not an oracle but it seems that you are correct in it being a Classic Vibe as I came across this on the Fender site for Chinese made Squiers : Squier Classic Vibe series guitars/basses serial numbers start with CG. e.g. CGSxxxxxxx I can't narrow down the year though

Ian, sounds like a CV! Last week I setup a "fiesta red" CV 50 strat and on the back of the headstock it was the same as you described. Cheers Rob

Hi Ian,
My CV 50s starts with the serial number CGS13 and is a 2013 model so it is probably safe to assume that this is a 2011 model.
Best regards,
Maurice.

Thank you Sandra, Rob and Maurice for your great help I'm sure you are right -a 2011 Classic Vibe. If she had to sell it to a guitar shop, any idea how much she might get? Ian

Hi Sandra Above and beyond the call of Duty!! Marvellous - What a load of great info. I have already told her (just) NOT to take it to her local guitar shop, who offered her £100 as it is complete with hard case. Who's the hard case, I wonder? Its her call now. Times can be tough when your Breadwinner dies suddenly but "giving it away" is not going to help. cheers kiddo Ian

Well done Richie That's probably cos they thought it was "just a Squier". Of their day, the Silver Series were pretty good Squiers, as were the ORIGINAL series of Pro Tone" Squiers. I guess the Classic Vibes will eventually become a "classic" too. Ian

I have just bought a Classic Vibe Telecaster 50's for £319.00 (last week) this is the 'going rate' when buying new (they all quote a RRP of £418.00) this includes the Strat as well. When I was looking I trolled all the London shops and suberbs to see who was doing the best deals, they were all the same price apart from Tholmann which were about £15.00 cheaper. I think Sandra has got it about right with her answer. Just to say in my opinion the Classic Vibe is a brilliant guitar for the money.

I played one belonging to a friend not so long ago - it was a CV 60's and was mighty impressed. I liked the neck especially but thought the pickups a bit too "light" for my taste - I like the more modern Hank sound. Thats why I have Kinmans in mine. However, like you say, for the money its great value - way better than a MIM for instance. cheers ian

Sell privately, always the way, Gumtree favourite for a guitar like this as no fees and will probably be a local buyer who can collect...
