Hey Charlie, I took my bright sounding AC30 to my amp tech to back it's brightness off a little, I told him it was mainly the normal channel that was too bright, it's a bit better but the top boost channel has lost it's top end jangle, it's all mids. I asked him ( embarrassingly ) if he could replace what he took out now. Do you have any suggestions about making the normal channel less bright? I found this amp mod page www.ac30-guide.com/?page_id=524Matthew

Matthew, cutting HF will give you a loss of top jangle - mother nature.
Lyle Caldwells mods makes senses and will influence the high freqs, but - in the light of your recent experience - it's hard to tell if they'll solve your problem. Do you know what your amp tech changed?
I'm wondering if what you are hearing as too much brightness is in fact due to a lack of low end. In that relation one point in Caldwells mods stands out to me. "Vox effed up the effects loop due to a typo. In many Custom Classics there is a drastic loss of low end when the effects loop is on"
Do you use the FX loop or do you have it on BYPASS?

Your cheapest way is to get an AC TONE PEDAL for £25.00. set the Amp controls flat and use the Pedal for your tone controls as discribed by Dave Robinson on Shadowmusic website.

.......... I'm not sure what he changed If I was you I'd find out for sure, otherwise you might end up with the same no-success mod again - and it difficult to suggest alternatives when we don't know what you tried already. The Joyo AC alternative is cheap - but if you can't get a flat response from the amp (which you should, it just a half-solution IMO. Erik

It looks like the right thing to do would have been #4: change the 220pf bright cap (C12) to a 100pf cap. The effects loop could probably do with checking too. Regards, Charlie
