AH - just back from a lovely weekend away and, guess what - we are off to Somerset on Wednesday. All go isnt it?! Erm - I'm struggling to find the "name" of this chord so I can input it into BIAB. Its A minor in the first position but with the SECOND string played open instead of the 1st fret C note. So its - 1st string - open second string - open third string - 2nd fret fourth string - 2nd fret. For anyone still awake its also the final chord in Hank Marvins version of Eleanor Rigby on Guitar Player album. Any help, always appreciated. Ian

Hi Ian, Country folk call it A2 as in the start of "love will keep us alive" for example, aka as, Asus2 or Am sus2, its a nice chord but....I think Hank plays Am7 at the end of Eleanor, Are you still on the Argentines ? regards Gary

Hi Gary I've seen that video. Hank's playing Am or an Am7 whilst Ben is playing some harmonics. However - If you listen to the recording and slow the last chord down - its 1st string - open 2nd string - open third string - 2nd fret 4th string - 2nd fret and possibly crucially - 5th string - open. Not the same chord. The "Argentines" are lasting well, surprisingly, as I play the Yammy every day and even took it away with me on hols this weekend. cheers ian

Hi All,
I put the notes into an online chord finder and am being told:-
E sus 4 A sus 2
Regards, Tim.
Edit:- Put E sus 4 into a search engine, looks like it's not that but A sus 2.

Ian,
'Tis indeed an Asus2, sometimes just called Asus. Pete Towshend's also quite fond of it.
Regards,
Len

As it stands, technically, it's E sus 4. It's neither major nor minor as it has no 'third'. Add an open A and it becomes A sus 2.

Be interesting to hear how BIAB responds...........I'm not sure it will recognise it.

Hi Ian
Playing the chord from or including the 5th open A String the chord becomes A add 9 as the open B string is 9 steps above the root note on the A major scale This is how it would be notated in the music
Cheers JJ

Until, you include the open 5th string, it's Esus4, add the open A, it's Asus2.

Sorry for the delay. On hols in Somerset and WiFi often not good on this caravan site. Best that BIAB can do is Aadd2. It sort of works ? but I'll have to overdub it with me playing the right chord to lessen the error. Cheers Ian PS - Hi JJ, good to hear from you. I can see you've posted a tune but DL here is pathetic so will be next week before I can listen.

Maybe I didn't explain it properly Aadd9no3 the two chords are the same and produce the same sound so if one won't work in BIAB the other might You can also play the E open 6th as it is the 5th note of the A major scale
Cheers JJ

Ah, this is a band in a box thing? Can you not just put the four notes onto a score/tab/midi editor to get it to read it? You and it wouldn't need to have a name for the chord then. You can paint it any way you want, though, it's still Esus4.
Cheers

Hello Ian
Try Aadd2/A it will make BIAB pick up the A5th string or, Aadd9/A either chord might get the sound you are looking for
BIAB does some funny things with chords but It can be made to do what you want it to do I've often thought that the Wizard is on something he comes with some funny chords at times Cheers John
