Hi Tony, I always think of Shindig as being one of the first Shadows recordings that sounds like a top boost AC30 sound. I think for almost anything earlier than that an AC15 would do, since they were essentially the same sound as the equivalent AC15 models. Regards, Charlie

Hello caddyshak
I'm not the guru on this but all the first & very early Cliff & Shads vocals were recorded with the AC 15's up to 1960 I think. They used two different AC15 during that period if I'm correct.I'm not shure which instrumentals were recorded with the AC 15's but I think tunes like Shadoogie,Blue Star,Find Me A Golden Street etc [The 1st Album] they used the second AC 15 line up.
I'm sure that Charlie and the rest of the guru's will definately correct or shoot me and in this way you will get more info that you've bargained for,ha ha !! Ok,here it goes.Towards the end of 1960 the very first AC30 non top boost came out on request of Hank. They were looking for more stage volume as it became very difficult to hear themselves when playing live.I think all the Cliff & Shads songs and instrumentals were then recorded with this AC 30's untill the arrival of the top boost models soon followed by the Marvin Burns guitars which was the birth of the Shads "new" sound. This was during the period of late 1963 to early 1964.
I hope that this would have helped you a bit, as I said, my info might not be 100% correct but also not very far from wrong.I'm sure that Charlie and Friends will fill the gaps.
Regards
Louis

Hi Tony,
There is some further info on this topic in the "FAQ Relating to Hank and The Shadows" board under the topic "Shadows Amplifiers". There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer as yet!
Paul.
