Hello guys and gals, I was so frustrated with echo machines paired with various amps that I actually gave up playing for about two years, but now with the reviews of the Hall and Collins paired with the Mini3 or Mini5 it has tended to give me a new incentive to "crank it up" again. I used to spend so much time tweaking and fiddling that the fun of playing left me. All I want is the Hall and Collins (which I have yet to order) played straight into an amp for home use, that I don't have to keep adjusting. Can anyone "save me" and recommend what to use. I owe it to myself to try again!! Ray.

I've had the DA-5 and now have the Mini-3, they are as good as each other with the unmistakable Vox/Shadows sound. The Mini -5 is the new version of the DA-5.

Thanks for being patient enough to answer my question "localhero". I now realize that this has already been covered in a previous thread late last year. I think that covered about everything. It did throw the AC4 into the equation though. It's never a simple decision.
Ray.

It is Ray if you're on a budget. A new AC-4 costs around £200 and the Mini-3 £89, basically for similar tone and quality. The Mini-5 is a bit more expensive than the Mini-3 and has rhythm on board. I've been using the Mini-3 tonight and it's as good as any.

Thanks again for your reply "localhero", I'll give the Mini-3 a try.
Kindest regards. Ray.

I have a DA-5, brilliant little amp, absolutely love it.
Shame they discontinued it.

Thanks for that "timryland", Do you know if there is any difference between the older DA-5 and the newer Mini-5.
Ray.

Like Ray, I have been considering the Mini 3 but wonder how good it is when you also put the BT through the Aux-in? I tried a DA5 a few years ago and thought it was great but not so good when also putting the BT through the small speaker. So I can't decide whether to keep my Pathfinder, buy a Joyo AC30 pedal and a cheap stereo or sell the Pathfinder and buy a "mini" Vox. Any thoughts from members would be much appreciated Thanks Tony

Let me be vety clear about this. I don't and would never play the BT through any amp I was playing my guitar through. The two sets of tones just don't match for both to sound good. My tests are about using these amps for guitar only.

For this purpose I play my backing tracks from a mp3-player through the Aux-in and my guitar in the input jack - both together in one amp and over one speaker! I am not as professional as others here but I think the sound is very good The volume to practise is completely enough from the 5'' speaker. If you need it absolutely quiet you should use the phones jack with headphones - every bit as good as from the speaker! I can recommend it Regards, Bernie

Hi Tony,
I was using the line out of my DA-5 into a Alto 5-channel mixer. My mp3 BT's also went into this mixer. Then the ouput from the mixer went to a pair of powered speakers.
Sounded great to me.
Tim.

I picked up a Mini-3 yesterday and gave it a try. It really is a terrific little amp, all it is cracked up to be. I've had a few amps but this one surprised me, perfect for playing in the house. Now all I need to do is upgrade my echo machine from a m/stomp and Zoom g2 to a to a better piece of equipment and I'll be in business......again!!! Anyone know where I can get one?? Ray.

Hi Ray, Good to hear that you are happy with that little great amp. It's always purely a matter of taste - I love the AC15 amp setting and use it almost always. Cheers, Bernie

Have you considered the Hall & Collins Signature Echo? I believe that the next batch is almost ready.

Hello "musketeer58",
Yes, I do know the next batch is about ready to go, but for now, I am going to have to stick with what I've got. The Canadian Dollar has really taken a hit in the last year or so. To get a Hall&Collins delivered to Canada would end up costing around $1350 or so Canadian, a little much at this stage of the game. So I will wait until (a) I am just too tempted or (b) the dollar picks up again. I've got a sneaking suspicion it will be (a)
Regards. Ray.

Hi Ray.
I know what you mean. The same thing has happened to the Australian dollar as well. I`m not patient enough to wait for the dollar to pick up so, for me, it was option "A." I had a Zoom G2.1NU and then a G9.2TT, both great pedals. Good luck with what you end up doing.
Cheers
Adrian

On the strength of some of the posts above I have just taken delivery of the amazing Vox Mini 3. The sounds certainly have the Vox flavor even at a low volume. As my lease states that we are not allowed to play musical instruments this very useful. OK, I could use head phones but in hot and humid weather this is not a perfect solution. As a matter if interest, the amp cost £41:00 here (Delivered) compared to £89:00 that I saw quoted by Amazon UK. Regards Gruntfuttock

2 new Vox amps just announced VXI and VXII. They look pretty good, might have been tempted with a VXII if I hadn't just bought a VT20+.
Should have known there's always something new round the corner.
Tim.
