I am having a problem with the timing of this tune as I only have a backing track and no sample of the tune and timing. A search of the site has not produced anything so I was wondering if anyone could help.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Maurice.

Hi Maurice,
I suggest you try the iTunes Store. Search for 'Riders in the Sky The Shadows' and you will turn up several examples. 99p (UK currency) and a track could be yours!
Regards, Mike

Has to be my favorite HM song, and that 2000 concert version is the best performance by far. I have several Riders backing tracks, but they all are much slower tempo and don't have the faster uptempo beat of this concert version. Would love to find a BT with the tempo and fullness of that 2000 concert performance.

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the link but that is the version I learnt and unfortunately as LW said there isn't a BT for this one. My problem is tying up the melody with the BT as the only one I have seems to be slightly different at certain parts of the tune. It looks like it will be trial and error until I get it right.
Best regards,
Maurice.

Until I got a BT to use, I also learned this by playing along with that 2000 concert version. One of the differences that tripped me up at first was that in the concert version the intro goes through two intro cord progressions before Hank comes in. With both of the BT that I have you need to come in with the intro lead right away on the first beat. There are a few other differences, but once you start off in synch with the BT they are easy to fix.
I would just really like for someone to create a Riders BT that matched that live 2000 concert version that is so awesome.

Ian McCutcheon does a BT for Riders based on the version with the Apache intro...he also does a track complete with lead guitar.

I wonder if any of our technical members would like to try and make a decent BT. I am sure there are a lot of members who would be willing to pay for it. Best regards, Maurice.

How`s it going Guys.
There is another thread on Riders in the Sky in the sound files section and I asked a question there regarding the ending of the BT. I have a couple of different versions but neither of them have the same ending as what Hank did in the 2000 concert and so far, the only BT that I have been able to find with that ending is on one of Ian McCutcheons discs however, his version starts off with the Apache intro. I suppose that the intro could be removed with Audacity or something similar but if you`re not bothered about the ending I`ve got a pretty good one that I`m more than happy to email to anybody who wants it so, if you would like the one I`m using just PM me and I`ll send a copy.
Cheers
Adrian

Hi Gary, Thanks for the link but it does not solve my problem, maybe I didn't make it clear what I was looking for. The tune I learnt was from one of the Shadows CDs but as we have realised there are no BTs available for that version, so what I need is a BT and a recording of the tune to match that BT. Hope this explains what I am looking for more clearly. Best regards, Maurice.

maurice if there is no bt available for that version and you still want to play riders in the sky the option is you'll either have to wait until one is available or learn another version that has a backing track or get one made to the version you want

Hi Maurice,
per your 1st posting you've got a backing track for a specific version of the "Riders in the Sky" and you're looking for the tune that that BT is based on. If I were there with you right now, I'd just say "Maurice, let me hear the BT maybe I'll recognize the version and can help you with that."
So, why don't you upload this BT to your preferred sharing site and let us hear it? If you don't want to upload the whole track for whatever reason, just make another copy of it containing only the 1st half it, that will be sufficient for all the Shadows experts here to pinpoint the exact version for you and point you to the right YouTube video.

Hi Geza,
That sounds like a good idea, but I will have to join one of the sound sharing sites or maybe just email the BT to you if that would be ok.
Best regards,
Maurice.

Hi Maurice, If we were in the middle of a jungle with no connection to the outside world, I'd say, OK, send it to me, since I would be the only one around. But since we do have Internet I'd say you'd probably get a much faster result if you'd share it somewhere on the net like on 4share.com since I am far from being a Shadows expert, I'm more like a Shadows fan who is fascinated by THAT sound and cannot get bored with it IF I listen to other non Shad tunes as well. Geza P.s.: when I was saying "all the Shadows experts" in my previous post, I didn't mean to include myself in that group of folks, I just tried to give a push to solve an ongoing problem of yours, since I used to do technical support over the phone and by other means in IT stuff.

Maurice, one more thing, that I forgot to mention: You didn't mention the origin of your BT track, in case it was made by one of the known Shadows BT authors, it would be a mistake to upload the WHOLE track to any sharing site, that is why I suggested you to create and upload a short version of it to be on the safe side. (In case, no one will recognize the author and it's a great BT, everybody on this forum will want a copy of it anyway later, but of course, that won't mean that it is not copy righted

Hi all, I noticed the jeff daniels BT is close to the 2000 version by Hank, however its missing the appregiator (the keyboard sound),There are free plugins for this for anyone willing to experiment. For the "String of Hits" version, well...like me...youll just have to wait till someone makes a decent BT. Im not mad about the 1990 version but I like Roger Paullsons new version to which he has a BT available. regards gary
