I could be wrong but I think Delta Tone is more to do with the Pots and wiring than the pups..............either way unless someone has alredy tried such a guitar I wouldn't think it suitable for your purposes.

Hi Brian, I have an American standard strat (2004 I think), and wasn't satisfied with it until I'd done a bit of work on it. The cavity for the pick ups is a "swimming pool" configuration (i.e. not profiled to the individual PU's. I added some hardwood to mine to put more wood closer to the PU's. It may be that all American Standard Strats are not constructed this way, just flagging up a possibility.
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Brian,It would be suitable for Shads stuff, the bridge pickup is slightly hotter than middle and neck but you can adjust the tone controls to suit, Fender did make the pickups to suit the delta tone mod but the mod itself isnt all that, it just removes the cap from the circuit making it sound a little sharper. hope this helps......gary

Changed my mind again went and bought guitar according to serial number it was made 2007 -2008. It played really good when i tested it without amp. Got it home. Had a good look at it (with reading glasses on this time) could not believe state of it rusty saddles tremlo blocked with 5 rusty springs frets covered in muck 2 tuning pegs loose string tree loose. Strings (11s) rusty All this and it still played good. testiment to american strat. Stripped it down did all above jobs buffed up saddles. Delta tone pickups did not work for me. Too bright swaped them for toneriders vintage.the guitar now is spot on. Thank you all for your helpfull comments. Regards brian.

I bought a B Bender Tele in '98 - US Std, but screwed together in the CS - anyhoo, that has 'Delta' pickups and the zero load pots. Basically, the pickups on both the Strat and Tele were called 'Deltas', between '97-2000 and the guitars had the zero load tone control. There's nothing special about the pickups - they're regular modern style single coils, the tone pot is effectively bypassed when fully open - you can tell if it is one, as it has a 'notch' at the end of the travel. Any Strat pickup can get you the Shadows sound, it's just that some would need more EQ tweeking than others.
Cheers, Julian

Cheers julian. Apparantly the bridge pick up on my 2007 has more windings so is also slightly hotter. I have put these into one of my other strats so they wont get waisted but toneriders are miles better for the sound i want i have found this with trial and error. regards brian...
