Hi
I just recently bought a Vox VX2 amp for home practice and I am very pleased with it so I thought I would pass it on.
They are cheap practice amps ideal for home use and the specs are on the Vox site in the link below.
They have two Vox AC30 models being the AC30 normal channel and the Top Boost Channel. To my ears these are very good and compare to other Vox amps I have owned. As such they are very good for doing Shads tunes both early stuff and later top boost tunes. I use a Caline EQ pedal to finish the sound and it is as good a sound as I have ever achieved in a live setting from an amp.
The case is made of ABS plastic with a wooden speaker baffle and it has bass porting to improve low end response from the small 8" speaker. The best part of all this is you can pick this amp up with your little finger !
There are 11 amp models and effects and they all sound realistic to me. I would think they are similar to the DA and Mini series, but they have New technology from Vox in the circuit design. The power amp is analogue and FET based emulating a valve power stage and the pre amp modelling is digital based on a new VET modelling technology by Vox. Made in Vietnam by the way. Additionally the tone stacks are modelled for the amp selected and the Vox one behaves as expected.
Although made of ABS plastic they are quite smart and they are cheap and they sound great so I am very pleased with mine.
The only thing I would like is more headphone volume but I think there would be a resistor in circuit you could change or remove to improve that.

The VX2 come with the Jamvox software which does a very good job of removing guitar from a audio file as well as permitting Amp and effects configration

Hi

They are cheap practice amps ideal for home use. Is it loud enough for club playing with a real drummer ? A few years ago I listened to someone using a Vox AD15-VT in a 50 people room, and it was loud enough. Didier

It might not be but a microphone in front would sort it. It is a practice amp rather than a stage amp.

I have not yet had a go with the USB connection Derek but I understand a speaker cab emulation is used when connected. In the video above the sound is recorded from the Headphone output jack which also has speaker cab emulation so I would guess it would be similar to that.
The amp is very good. I have an AC4 limited edition which I would say is no better than this amp. Probably the best little practice amp I have come across and so light to carry.

Hi Roger
I finally got the VX2 ... so far I am quite impressed.
I will post something in due course.
DIDIER : I don't gig so I can not say for sure that it is loud enough for small venues but it is pretty quiet when turned up ( ie there is very little Hum or Hiss.) It should be ideal for recording.
I have not fully tested the USB side of things. ( Jamvox looks handy though but I am not sure of its main purpose yet ! )

Hi Derek and others interested in this amp I did a couple of quick recordings using the JamVox software and the VX2 amp today for purposes of quick demo. Both tunes were recorded using the USB connection straight to JamVox. I did not use the software amp sounds this is the VX2's own sound via USB. I just set up a Roland echo that was simulated in the software to approximate and a little room reverb with pre delay and recorded Peace Pipe using the Top Boost amp. I did not change anything and used the Normal Channel on the VX2 and did Apache. The echo is all wrong for Apache but I decided to do it to demo the amp sound mainly so do not take too much notice of the echo ! These files were recorded straight from JamVox and no EQ added or any other effects. I just converted to MP3s for the upload. The guitar was a G&L S500 with 10s fitted. Hope they give some idea of the amps sound. Peace Pipe VX2Apache VX2Also I think to use the amps in the JamVox software you simply need a USB interface device rather than than VX2 itself. The only ech in the software suitable is the Roland emulation so it is a bit limited but you can add the usual echo in the way you normally would when recording with any other software and interface.

Hi Roger and others I recorded this as a Demo . Peacepipe using VX2 ( Live ) with UBHank BT. app.box.com/s/j07n89h4wccwa6h8y6eo9kdhx98fjfzyThe chain was '62 RI to H&CSE ( P15 ) to VX 2 with the AC30 sim selected.. full gain , no Bass & no Treble .... then SM57 mic'd to Mixer to Px with a little EQ in MIXCRAFT. I thought it a pretty good example of the new VX 2 amp ( and its still early days with experimenting ! ) .... you be the judges !! Derek( EDITED TO CORRECT THE LINK )

Hi Roger Sorry !!! .... here's the correct one !! app.box.com/s/j07n89h4wccwa6h8y6eo9kdhx98fjfzyI did of course listen to it. I much preferred the PP to Apache ... maybe it was the echos but your play was excellent ... I have still to play around with Jamvox ... Does it work like a DAW ? I could not see how to use it ( I need a very easy getting started !! ) . Are you able to save a mixdown file to mp3 ! Derek( Ps Sorry about the link it was my fault. )

DerekHi Derek, Well played but tbh I thought the sound was rather on the "dark" side, BT and all, did you eq the whole track after recording? I thought for the price I'd give one a go and mine should arrive tomorrow if my tracking info is correct. I believe Jamvox is a vst, and if you've installed it, should appear in your DAW vst list. If it isn't in the list then I guess they'll be some files you need to add to your vst directory. Kind regards, Chris

As far as JamVox is concerned I believe it does not work in the way a multi track studio works and when you record you get the backing and your guitar together in one file. It is more of a practice tool I think but you can record your attempts and use amp modelling and effects and also the Karaoke thing is quite good. Any serious recording though would be best done with your fav studio software. I suppose thought you could play the backing in say Windows Media player and perhaps record just the guitar in JamVox if you wanted too.
Derek ... nicely played but I agree with Chris regarding the sound. I think the Top Boost model would be a better choice IMHO.
Best practice amp I have had !

Recording with JamVox still gives choices. You can record a complete track (guitar & BT) together) as I have done with 70+ videos on YouTube, or you can upload BT to Audacity (or similar) and record / upload guitar track via JamVox to Audacity. Then carry out editing in usual manner.

Hi Sandra , Chris , Roger and Geoff Thanks for your comments ... I did a bit if parametric EQing to try and improve the overall tone but which has ( as you quite rightly noticed Chris ) had an adverse affect on the BT . I am now looking more at / into the JAMVOX software and uses... so thanks for the help, advice and comments . I have recorded PP again using the SM57 but this time with the AC30TB sim selected ... I have not used and kind of effect or EQing other than that within the H&CSE patch P15 ..... the VX2 has bass and treble cut to zero. Is this a better sounding version ? ( I think you were right Roger !! ) ... I must confess this is a great little amp... especially at the price. app.box.com/s/bcgt06skpe938dvg0n840hevndo8wx4rCheers Derek

Yes that is better Derek. Try putting treble at 12 O Clock and bass at around 9 O Clock.

I am new to this forum and have just purchased a Vox VX2 and am struggling to figure out how to get the AC30 or any of the 11 amps to sound anything like early Shadows stuff. How do I modify the presets or otherwise input and save something closer to what I want? The AC30 preset is "Message in a Bottle" which is not to my taste. Still trying to understand Tone Room. Where can I get the correct parameters from for something like Apache? Appreciate any assistance.
Thanks, Alan

Hi,
I cannot open any of the Box sound files. I just get the following message:
"This shared file or folder link has been removed or is unavailable to you". Does this mean that Australia has been excommunicated??

Then reduce gain for cleaner tone (Try about 10 o Clock) set treble 12 o Clock and bass about 9 o Clock . For clean tones master volume and power up higher gain low as you can get. Also try treble and bass both off for some earlier tunes. You may need addition eq pedal for sounds closer to the record to cut bass and high end. Normal channel AC30 also works for early tunes. HTH

I'm just wondering about how many more new amps Vox can put out as they've seemed to have created just about every combination there is, they have released new AC 30's and AC15's with "Original" circuitry, and then produce upgrades on this....sales hype Phil
