Hi Charlie, I'm after some advise on getting a Brian May tone. I bought a Blackstar boost pedal at that guitar show the other day, it really helps my Blackstar on the classic crunch setting get a Van Halen tone, before that it wasn't enough or modern crunch setting was too much. I thought I try and get Brian May with it on my Vox and strat. I first tried the normal channel low input cause I saw on a video he went into that. I had the pedal a full gain with it's treble at zero and bass at 9 O'clock, but it didn't have enough gain. Also my normal channel is not as dark, which is better for Shadows stuff. I tried the same on the top boost channel with the treble off, the gain is there this time, but it's hard to get the tone, sounds a little on the brittle side. Do I need hotter single coils like Brian uses on his red special, is that a key to the sound? I was running the gain flat out on the Vox also Thank You Matthew

Hi Matthew, I believe the secret is wiring the pickups in series. That gives a massive gain boost when two or more are on together. Regards, Charlie

Have to agree with Charlie. The key to it other than Brian may himself is the guitar.

I'm after some advise on getting a Brian May tone. That's easy, just use the same amp setup as he does : Didier

Hi Charlie & Friends, The Rig rundown ( Here) explains it all including the sixpence piece, bought in bulk. The last three minutes or so of the rig rundown are very informative. Regards, Tim.
