Hi, I was wondering how you record sound with an amp miced up while videoing? All the ones I've done have been with the camera mic, but I want to do better quality ones. I assume you record it through an interface the match the sound to the video somehow afterwards? I was looking at getting an sm57 mic and a Steinberg interface with software. Thanks Matthew

Hi Matthew the way I do it is record the audio in audacity and the video with a camera. Then you combine the 2 in a programme. I use cyber link power director.
Old guitar monkey has done a couple of great YouTube videos showing this.

Here is what I use for concerts filming : As camcorders built-in mics are generally not very good, I use external mics (T.Bone EM9600), The main problem is that only a few camcorders have a socket for external mics. Hi Matthew,
I record my video on a Lumix FZ200 and the audio on an app on my iPad.
I then use iMovies to create my videos.
One point I have learnt doing it this way is to give a loud clap before you start playing, this makes it much easier to line up the video and audio later.
Also, if I make a mistake I just just clap again, say "Take 2, or 3, etc." and carry on. I can remove the other bits later. Before I did this I used to drive myself mad doing retakes.
Tim.

Most video software have the facility to replace the audio with another audio file. So you can record a video of yourself playing along to the backing track. Then do an audio recording of you playing and edit up in a studio / software. Then you replace the rough audio in the video with the best audio recorded and edited in the studio / software. The timings are roughly the same as the same backing is used for the video and the audio file so it fits okay.
