I knew Lemmy in 1966, he was a great guy and a showman, at that time he played lead for The Rockin Vicars, when he left the band, I replaced him. I remember him asking me to join him as he was moving to the smoke, I was a bit unsure of this because I knew what would be involved regarding drugs etc. He went, and became Hendrix's roadie, he also joined Hawkwind and Motorhead changing to bass. I remember visiting him at a farm house that the Vicars rented just outside Blackpool, I picked up his Telecaster and tried to push some strings, but they were unpushable, it turned out that with his slamming the neck against the mic stand, the string cut into the frets and were "fixed" there R.I.P Lemmy. Another original gone - whether you liked his material or not - he was a one-off. I met him once in the mid eighties when my band 'Wonderland' played at the original Marquee club in Wardour St, Soho - he was in the audience and stayed after hours drinking JD & Coke like it was going out of fashion... We were of course a little starstruck and I remember he was a real gentleman...
Wherever he is right now - I don't think it will be peaceful Phil!

In those days, Lemmy and the band had TVM amps made for them by a guy in Blackpool, they were 100w unheard of in those times...needless to say the Vicars were loud...especially when compared to other bands. Here's a picture, Lemmy is far right, top picture. Phil www.manchesterbeat.com/groups/revblack/revblack.php

That band in the sky gets a bassplayer extra or two this way....who's getting the bass duty now... Jack, Jaco or Jet? Now's Lemmy knocking on heavens door to play bass.....
Again a legend gone....RIP Lemmy

Hi Phil,
Great story. Sad to lose such character, musician and influence. I remember the first time I saw Motorhead (Bomber tour) at the Caird Hall in Dundee. I walked across the width of the Caird Hall to get to my seat, the stage was left and by the time I got there I was deaf in my left ear.
Regards
Kevin

Hi Phil, Fond memories you must have of him. I only knew his music. Although I have read he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, I havn't read anywhere that was the cause of death. Make room on the periodic table for "Lemmium"...... See THIS article. R.I.P. Lemmy Regards, Tim.
