Has any one tried using the stock pickups from a US standard Strat, you will be surprised just how good they are. After all that's what Hank first used, stock pickups, I suspect they have changed over the years but they still sound good to my ears.

I've tried them all and to be honest most normal pickups are great for shads tones. The only ones that arent are high output pickups or Kinman FV HMS.
Personally i would get the guitar, get it setup properly and then try it with your setup and see how you go.

Hi Joe, I have the same model of guitar, jumped in both feet first and replaced PU's with Fat 50's, and tbh the difference in sound didn't justify the expense. I put the old PU's in my son-in-law's MIJ Squier and that was a very positive sound upgrade for him. Conversely, I have replaced the standard pickups from an American Standard with 57/62's and that change was well worth doing. There are lots of "upgrades" that can be done, but we're all stuck with the fingers we were born with and that's where the sound starts. Kind regards, Chris
