Hi all
It seems that filming yourself playing is catching on so knowing i had a Camcorder from years ago I had a look for it.
The Camcorder is a Panasonic NV-GS33 and it uses Mini DV Tapes.
I presume using Tapes is not a problem as I see most newer models use DV Cards.
OK my question is,if the Camcorder still works, and the battery is charging as I write this, what extras will I need.
Tripod, editing software and anything else I need plus lots of advice.
Thanks
Alan

Alan,
Although it would be possible with a tape-based camcorder, it's probably easier with a digital version. You will need some way to convert the analogue tape to digital.
I use my Panasonic Lumix FZ200 digital camera to record myself. Have a look at some of the digital compact cameras, many now include a decent movie mode.
The other thing I found is that it's better to record the audio seperatly and sync them together later when editting the video.
What equipment you will need somewhat depends on whether your using Windows, Mad or tablet.
I use an iPad for my audio recording and all video/audio editting.
Hope this helps,
Tim.

Hi Tim
Thank you for the reply and the useful info. All very interesting.
Hi Steve
I have watched both videos and yes they are very good and very informative. Seems there is more to video editing than I first thought.
I need to get some demo software now to see which one I will take to.

Hi Alan
Oddly enough ive just upgraded my 2 camcorders but for years i used a Panasonic HD SD41 which is a great little camera, easy to use and you can pick them up really cheap second hand. £50 or so. If your interested in a cheap one to get you going im probably going to be selling mine.
My new ones are Canon HDR PJ 410, the zoom is better and they can be controlled wirelessly with a smartphone so great for shooting away from the camera.

HI Steve
Thanks for the offer I am going to try with my Panasonic NV-GS33 before I buy anything.
The first thing I need is editing software. I have been looking at Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite 12. Its on Amazon for £25 or less and seems to do everything.
I need to get some practise in,i have ordered a desktop tripod and some new tapes and I already have a Firewire lead for transfer to the PC.
Maybe demo software will be first I just need to film something.

Hi Steve I did look at that but it wasn't very intuitive.
I will try it when I have some video to edit, looks like the cat is going to be a star he he.

My brother just got a camcorder for Christmas that has an external microphone jack, it's a bit pricey, I might have to save for one myself, saves a lot of messing around Matthew
