Hi,
Lol, no I can't play it nor, I suspect, am ever likely to - quite a challenge!
It's an unusual sound and I wondered a) whether any of you have managed to conquer this catchy tune and b) if so, what equipment might have been used and settings employed?
I note that the HCSE patch listing recommends P48. Can something similar be achieved using EFTP with a MagicStomp along with a Vox AC30? Just curious.
Regards, Mike

Hi Mike, To my ears it's a straight guitar sound with echo, probably through a Mesa Boogie amp. It's more of Hank's modern sound, with some more bass. The EFTP Magicstomp patches aren't close to the right echo. Regards, Charlie

Hi Gary, Thanks. Very possible about the 301, as the shortest delay time for Mode 2 is around 80ms. The patch I recommended is about the same delay time. Regards, Charlie

Hi Mike,
I have been giving this tune a try many times over the last decade, but has given it up just as many times.
A months or so ago I decided to have a last go at it, but accepting that I have become a more slow speed player (if I ever was faster :-)) - fingers and brain communication don't wotk flawless any more - I tried to reduce the tempo with around 10% keeping pitch (Audacity). Now I can at least work my way through the tune getting more familiar with the flow - but not without errors. Reaching the original tempo that's quite another ballgame.
The slowed down version is based on Ian McCutcheons backing on the Shadows Workout 5+ CD. I haven't focused on what patch to use and won't until I feel I can play the tune.

Hi Mike, I met Hank in 89,90,and 2000, One of the many questions I asked was about the Hits Right Up Your Street album, 3 strats were used,2 AC30s and Roland 301 purchased at time of polydor album deal ,(during change of address album) .1 of the strats were strung gauge 9 strings also used on XXV album ,hope this helps...regards .Gary

Hi Mike, I use MS Patch 23 with echo slightly reduced, which is an RE301 Mode 5 patch I think. I am not a stickler for getting an exact sound as long as the flavour is there. This is how I play it using a modified Tony Kiek BT which is a bit different and if I recall correctly, a little slower than The Shads' version. A great piece for live gigs. app.box.com/s/6npa2bdwhidk1qytlm5rRegards George

Gary, George: Great info - many thanks! George: Now I'm feeling a touch envious - wish I could play like that. I really enjoyed your rendition of this challenging ditty Did I just say 'ditty'? This tune is far from being simple in it's execution, quite the opposite in actual fact. I wonder if I should give it a go......sometime? Don't ask me to post, it ain't likely to happen..Lol! Pete: What can I say?! Made me chuckle - thanks - just what was needed Regards, Mike

Hi Gary, Pete, Duncan and Mike, Thanks very much .. should have posted this in sound files and only meant it as an example for Mike. Duncan .. did you think I was just a pretty face !! Mike, this is a catchy tune even when played much more slowly, so why not slow the BT down and then just practice, practice, practice ... practice. Cheers George

Many many moons ago I've recorded this tune as a real joke on my 61 Fender Bass VI. On a strat the speed isn't that hard to follow, but the reaction time of the thick bass strings is much slower as of 11-52 guitar strings.... So it was hard work and the long 30 inch scale neck cost time to the hand travel on the neck. This recording was the second time in a few minutes, because on the first I the pauseknob wasn't released properly.....so no recording was made... At 3/4 of the recording a little fatige was sticking his ugly head up.... After the second recording(the one you listen to) Í grabbed one of my strats and it feels aesy piecy to play TMJ... Maybe Charlie can hear the Q2 setting I've used...because I can't remember it... Hope you like it and enjoy it. TMJ Bass VICheers Rob

Hi Rob, Ha Ha! I can see how it would be easier on the guitar after playing that. I think you used patch 0-37, 0-38, or 0-39. Regards, Charlie
