'There are places I'll remember...'
What a shining person - what a great work he has done! I can't help it remembering the meaningful lines of 'In My Life' where he played his peerless piano solo.
RIP George

Bernie, he did that solo when the Beatles went for lunch, he slowed the original down and played to it, when it is back to speed the piano turns into a harpsichord...magic!

Very sad to read this. He was a clever and astute producer and a great musician. I would where the uber famous of the 60s to 80s would have been without him? Ian

As a bit of Beatles fan, and have studied their music in detail, George was certainly the "5th Beatle" R.I.P George

In the words of ABBA thank you for the music Sir George Martin, the fifth Beatle. He was the one who took on the Beatles after every other producer turned them down, he wasn't too keen either, but thankfully as they say the rest is history. As other mentioned he also played piano on several Beatle records including the solo on in my life www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUDje4cTev0Matthew

RIP to a genius, scanners - it's just George, the 'Sir' ceases when the person concerned dies. Cheers, Julian

Sorry Julian, I'm not up with royal protocol, still waiting for my own OBE haha Matthew LOL. No biggie... It's the reason why they never award posthumous knighthoods and why a certain disgraced dead celebrity wasn't "stripped" of his. The title ceases on death... but it's a discussion for a different time.

Sir George Martin lived a very full life. I recall being in Sydney coincidentally when he was conducting an instrumental performance of his own Beatles repertoire with a Sydney orchestra and marvelling at his arrangements. I had been reading his book "All You Need is Ears" recently in which he says, and I quote, "For me, making a record is like painting a picture in sound..."
Says it all...
