Help!! I cant get the photos off my digital camera into my PC!! I have a Panasonic Lumix 'point and shoot' digital camera which I have used successfully for quite a while. It has previously had a standard 4gb memory card in and has always "delivered" the pics to my PC when I plug it in to the USB. HOWEVER, in Australia as we were going to take lots of photos/video etc I bought an 8Gb Sandisk micro SD card and adaptor for the trip. We filled it!! Lol! Now, here's the thing - I can see ALL the videos and photos IN the camera using the Review feature, I can take the memory card out of my camera, insert it into my Android tablet and they are all there and can be seen and/or played. BUT if I connect the camera to my PC, instead of getting the "Photo Wizard" coming up as I used to do, I get nothing! Nowt! If I try "My Computer" it shows the camera as a Drive but if I try to Open or Explore it says there's nothing there or just gives me a black rectangle, or tells me the camera is "in use. Please try later". What??!! What am I doing wrong please? Given that the 8gb card is Full, could there be some long delay whilst my PC thinks about it? These are once in a lifetime memories and I cant lose them!!!! Can any savvy cameras buffs help me with this one? Please!! Ian

Hi Ian,
We have always used a card reader to upload photos into the pc and never tried connecting the camera. This has always been successful for us so it might be worth a try. Good luck.
Best regards,
Maurice.

May be you could try to read the SD card directly from the PC with a suitable USB adaptator. This is what I do for my camcorder 32 Gb SD card.
Didier
PS looks like Maurice is doing the same.

Get one of these Ian, www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01788P4TSYou might have to choose several programs to open them, depending on the file format. Don't open them, copy and paste to your pc, so you're originals stay intact. Duncan.

Hi Ian
It's just that the automatic downloader is not reading the files it possibly sees the new card as another device (hard drive or SD card, they are all just external storage as far as the system is concerned), Didier is correct, but you should also be be able to read them directly from the camera by searching for the the SD card in the downloader. I always found auto downloads fidley and much prefer to use the systems file manager, it should show up like any other connected disk, at which point you can copy them manually to the the chosen directory.
Files are often kept on sub directories, so you may have to go through them to find the files, your downloader possibly needs to be give the right path to the location of the files.
Regards
Gary

Thanks guys, much appreciated. In the end it was the protectionswitch thingy on the side of the Holder adaptor not being set. I never knew it was there. Regards Ian
