Now I have always played my guitar with pure nickel wound strings on, predominately using Ernie Ball and also Fender bullets, I favoured the bullets over the Ernie Balls rock & roll 11-49 gauge, the sound was better with the bullets to my ears. I listen to and watch the videos posted by philmcg on you tube and on his site and was always impressed not only in his playing ability but in the sound he gets, I really like the tone he gets and always thought it was to do with his set up i.e. guitar, pickups, amp, echo unit, etc some of it probably is. I was reading an article where philmcg replied to a question and said he used Elixir Nano web strings, so I decided to try some, I ordered them on Amazon came next day put them on my guitar and started to play, I was blown away the sound is pure heaven to my ears, the tone on my guitar is so much better with these strings its like I have got a new guitar. I would not of thought it possible for strings to make that much of a difference but it really does in my case. Just had to share this, has any one else had such a big difference in their sound from changing strings ?
Regards
Carlos

I've used Elixir for years and am very happy with them. The string-life, even on a heavily-played guitar, is so long (provided, of course, that you wipe them down after playing) that the extra cost is more than worth it. I've had Elixirs on a couple of my less-often-played guitars for over three years and they still sound great. Even my regular guitars go over a year on one set.

I find Ernie Ball strings to twangy and high pitched for me. I tend to use GHS Boomers. They last quite well and have a pleasant sound.
Noel makes a good case for Elixirs though.

On an hours used basis, Elixir strings will stay fresh so much longer than any other brand, that there is no need to think about the extra cost involved in buying Elixir's. Normal un-coated strings go dead after just one evenings use.

Hi, Have you tried PRS (Paul Reed Smith) strings?
I found they have a little more bite than the Pyramid Nickel Classics I've been using. It may be my imagination but the string tension seems on par with the pyramids. (Not too hard on the fingers).
I use various gauges on 6 & 12 string guitars.
