I watched a video the other day about the echo's that HM uses. He was giving an interview and some demo's (you may have seen it) but he couldn't bring himself to mention Charlie by name, which in my opinion he should have done. He spoke about all the time and effort that Charlie had put in to get the delays and the EQ's correct, but Charlie was still referred to as "A Fan", when everyone else was mentioned by name.

Could it have been advertising laws Bob ?

Agreed - it is not the usual input of a mere "fan" to provide the technical know-how to replicate your previous sounds that have not really been possible before. Keith might be correct but it still comes across as being somewhat disrespectful. I assume we are talking about the 1997 "Just Hank Marvin" video and the Q2 EFTP settings.

Yes Phil that's the one. I could be wrong Keith, but I don't think it was to do with advertising laws, I just thought it would have been nice on Hanks part to properly acknowledge Charlie after he acknowledged other guitarists by their names.

I agree. I think Hank should have mentioned Charlie Hall by name. I will say it was disrespectful!

He may have been instructed to not mention my name. I saw it that way and wasn't upset by it. Regards, Charlie

It would have cost Hank nothing to have mentioned Charlie's name, he did seem to trivialise what must have been a mammoth effort on Mr Halls part , ahh well such is life, Frank.

I think Charlie may remember this, if some of it is not to accurate then I apologise, but it was a long time ago. I remember phoning Guitarist magazine who at the time were in Ely Cambridgeshire and asked the editor if he knew of any current echo units suitable for Shadows music. He said he would phone me back. About an hour later Roger Newall Bassist editor (Marty Wild's Wildcats bass player) phoned me saying he was a Shads fan and he knew a guy who was trying to develop some digital echoes on a rack unit and he gave me his phone number in Ely.
I phoned a 'Mr Hall' and told him what I was after as Roger Newall had given me his number. Charlie said he had managed to get 5 or 6 dedicated echoes for each Shadows song, Apache, W/Land, Etc on an Alesis Quadraverb + rack unit, and invited me to come up and have a listen. I was blown away as Charlie demonstrated the echos and I remember at the time thinking what a great guitarist Charlie was. I remember distinctly saying to Charlie, you know who is going to love this, Hank! and Charlie said he would make a small demo tape up with the new echos and send it to Hank, I also have a copy of Charlie's demo tape to Hank. A couple of years later Charlie borrowed my Roland RE-301 tape echo as Hank still liked the Roland echos and Charlie copied most of Hank's favourites settings from my machine to the Quad + via the PC. From there on there was no stopping Charlie and as each new Quadraverb came out the patches got bigger and much modified, In those early days, I was writing the echo song lists/settings for which Charlie posted out with each machine sale, mow called EFTP, (ECHOES FROM THE PAST), it was all continual development and 'fine tuning' but a fantastic achievement, the rest is history, and I still use my Q20.

Hi Tone, I wish, in those days we were all just experimenting and giving each other ideas and helping out where we could. I was proud to be part of that. See you next meeting.
Pete
