Yes she is pretty good, but as with all "shredders, there is more style than substance, playing guitar is not about note count per second but the feel you put into it, as good as she is and only based on the bits I've seen I hope her teachers will steer her to more "musical" things with her obvious talent. I notice what looked like a "Joyo" ACtone in the background. I also noticed she needed to have a fretwrap on the 2nd fret and as you see there is a lot of "tapping" going on which needs a fretwrap and certainly along with very overdriven and sustaining notes does make for a very impressive performance for those who don't play guitar. Mike. PS: As far as "Maturity" goes, yes for good wines, cheese, steak and maybe one or two women.... (but not too mature)

!!Yes she is pretty good but !! come on mike shes 9 years old. she has plenty of time to learn to feel the music. on a similar vein when Michele Jackson and the Osmond's were very young singing love songs they were singing about things they had not experienced at that age. same with this girl she must have spent hours getting that good the rest will follow if she wants it to. peter

Technically brilliant but totally mechanical, learning by rote, without any soul. It would have been nice to see a smile from her at the end. Hopefully Kipper is right and her ability to feel the music has not already been wrecked.

I agree with Mike and Noel about this, but I think that if she's allowed to mature at her own pace she could become a great musician with those technical akills already onboard. I saw a 21 year old jazz guitarist in a Liverpool pub some years ago and everyone was raving over his ability, but my wife (who's not a musician) commented that the fancy playing killed most of the tunes so that after the first verse it was impossible to tell what it was. He was good, and could have gone to the top, but he's he's still playing dock road pubs. This kid could go down that road if she's not handled right.

There is no doubt it is technically brilliant. To be able to play that fast with no slips etc is wonderful to me but I guess it's personal preference. There is a time and song for that sort of thing. Didn't a famous guitarist once say "the mark of a great guitarist is knowing when not to play"

Credit where credits is due at 9 years old to have the temperament and ability to learn and be able to be able to play something like this on a guitar is something outstanding and as fellow guitarists we should applaud her for it.Most of us know the time and effort put in learning playing and practicing things. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but it should not stop us admiring her for this.

Peter,
not one here has said she cant play, she certainly can play the socks of anyone here I'd bet, it is for most so far here, of literally showing her super ability to be able to play a lot of notes in a very short time. I'd love to hear her play some Larry Carlton, it is of course her choice to play whatever she likes, she will be among a large number of people who can all do the same but I do hope she raises her musical horizons to include the many styles open to very good guitarists like her.
Mike.

She doesn't look like she's enjoying it much, does she?! And she's not alone - many excellent musicians give the impression that they are just doing a job of work and they'll be glad when it's all over and they can go home. My personal preference is for someone who loves to play and shows it, mistakes included, even if it's just a big smile at the end.

Mike. hi mike I do understand that you were not saying she cant play. what I am saying is she is 9 years old, I was just learning to ride a bike at that age (bit earlier really but just trying to making my point) how can a nine year old play with loads emotion. if she grows into her music that will come with the years. just my opinion and I hope I`m right be a waste other wise. peter

Eric Clapton (slowhand) doesn't play fast and is regarded as one of the greatest guitarists ever, speed isn't everything Matthew

hifolks personally I would rather watch and listen to the nort Koreans, what they are playing is more like music than the junior shred/death metal or whatever they call it.i find it strange how you can go in a music shop anywhere nowadays, and there will be some 10 year old doing this sort of thousand notes a second stuff, its like they've just gone straight to this stage ,never had to struggle like we did(or still do in my case !).will they ever be able to play a recognisable tune though, maybe wouldn't want to,but it seems to me more like a sport than music.what do you all think?

I remember the late great Gary Moor saying when he was asked about the speed freaks, that the next guitar hero will be some one who plays hardly any notes to the bar but puts in tons of feeling for each note which he said is sadly missing in speed freak riffs.
On a humorous note but I totally agree with a notice I saw above the counter in a Denmark St (London) guitar shop, It simply said any boy asking to play a guitar then goes into the Smoke on the Water or a Hendrix riff will be asked to leave.
