I took my Burns Drifter to a local Guitar shop to have the setup checked and adjusted if necessary. The guitar tech guy told me he was surprised there was no Truss Rod fitted so the neck couldn't be adjusted properly.
Is this normal ? I would have thought a Burns costing over £1000 (at the time) would have been fully adjustable.

Hi Glen,
The truss-rod adjuster is located under the neck plate and adjusted (using the t-bar Allen key supplied) via the hole in the plate. I'm surprised the "tech" didn't know that.

The problem is there isn't one fitted, which is my question, how common is this.
I have three other guitars Tokai, Fender and Yamaha all with Truss Rods but not the Burns ??

Hi Glen,
Now you've got me baffled. Do you mean that the Tech Guy removed the neck plate and the neck and noted that there was no truss-rod (or gearbox) fitted? And -- if there was no truss-rod -- was there a space/hole where it should have been?
Regards, DaveC.
Afterthought: I assume you are talking about Burns' "The Drifter" model and not the "Drifter LG50" model, which has the cover plate on the headstock.

I'm pretty sure the Drifter has the regular Burns neck and truss rod where access to the adjuster is under the cover plate on the back of the body behind the neck pocket. The cover plate is just a cosmetic cover and the neck mounting screws are concealed under it. Truss rod adjustment is via a hole through the neck pocket under the cover plate. www.burnsguitars.com/support.php

Just checked for myself, the 'Techie' is an idiot. The neck has the 'Gear-O-Matik' style Truss Rod - won't be going back there again in a hurry.
Thanks for putting me straight guys, I'll go back to Andertons in Guildford, always got excellent service there just a long drive to get there.

Yet another example of an "expert" giving wrong information.
The value of a site like this one of Charlie's is there will always be someone out there with the correct information.

I live in West London......perhaps a clue to where this 'guitar shop' is might save someone else some grief?

www.eternal-guitars.com/?page_id=193If you live near the South coast, try Eternal Guitars, speak to Dave Walsh. They made a very good job of refretting and relaquering my maple boarded strat from '73. Good luck Geoff
