I've recently had a few videos blocked in the USA for "Copyright claims" - These are very old ones that have been on YT for 7 years. Nearly always Eagles instumental covers - "Take it to the limit" was one - just my own arrangement and today "Hotel California" Hank Marvin's acoustic arrangement. www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9LXWXVuSikI've no way of knowing if Hank's original has been banned - the versions on YT still work in the UK but may have been banned in the USA ? Does anyone know why a Hank cover or a Hank original should be banned in the USA but not in the UK? I had a similar thing with "Moonlight Shadow" a few years back - They banned my cover, and Bruce Welch's shadows cover from a Shadowmania video - I appealed and eventually (3 months later) they re-instated both the video's with no explanation. Here is the email I received today... Hi random275,
Due to a copyright claim, your YouTube video has been blocked in some countries. This means that your video is still up on YouTube, but people in some countries may not be able to watch it.

I've never posted anything on You Tube Phil, but isn't there some kind of disclaimer you're supposed to put on with your videos? I'm sure I've heard something about it on this forum.
Regards,
Len

Hi Len - Yes I know a lot of people who put these disclaimers on but they still get certain videos barred. I had a BeeGees instro cover (You win again) barred and totally removed a while back - I waited 6 months and tried again and now it's on there.:-) . I cant find any real logic to it. Cheers Phil

I have only uploaded a few covers to yt, but instead of blocking them after advising my Santana covers "include copyright content" they have offered to "moneytorise" and share revenue with copyright owner. I have not taken the offer up as it is not my intention to make any money from my projects. Writing this from the beautiful island of Mauritius, hope it's not too cold in Blighty Mike.

Phil, Hanks original wouldn't be banned because he would be paying royalties.

Phil, Hanks original wouldn't be banned because he would be paying royalties. Phil Thanks for your replies - That's a good point Phil. I paid royalties to my son for the backing track Lol. I guess as The Eagles are an american band any banning would start in the USA. Cheers Phil

Phil, You can check on YouTube to see where, or if, songs are allowed. Some of them look quite odd. Check it out here, you may need to sign into YT to see it. www.youtube.com/music_policies?noapp=1I had problems when I tried to upload a cover of a Led Zeppelin song I had done. In the end I put it on Vimeo. Tim.

Hi Matthew - Yes a lot of guys who upload Eagles songs to YT have had them blocked. Shame really as it's all good publicity for the original. Cheers Phil
