Just got my signed copy of Hank's great new CD, "Without a Word".
Drop what you are doing, it can wait. Go rush to the shops and get yourself a copy.
It is the best CD I have heard in years. Hank Marvin fans who have been patiently waiting for more from him will not be disappointed. I liked the inventive arrangements: chord selections, modulations, and syncopations so typical of Hank's style. Ably assisted by his merry group of men, including son Ben.
For those that listen to my radio show, reported elsewhere on the forum, I will be playing a few tracks this Sunday.
But do go get yourself a copy, you won't regret it!

I dont regret it at all. There will be those for whom HBM can do nothing right these days but I think its a decent album. OK, they're covers but the treatments are excellent and as I am great one for changing chords etc to create new feelings I'm not disappointed to hear Hank doing the same to very pleasing effect. Some of the arrangements are quite innovative in their way and often clearly FUN. However, the stand out for me is Alfie, played totally straight in the way that only Hank can with delightful use of bends, trem dips, pre-bends etc etc - the whole armoury. Just my two penn'orth Ian

I have to agree with all the comments. I like all the tracks which is unusual, as there are usually one or two that I'm not keen on. Alfie is tops on this one for me (and the missus loves it too) lol. A great album.

I think the musical artistry on the album is quite spectacular, not least the rhythm accompaniments which are crisp, precise, and sparkling. Quite a lot of gypsy rock influence compared to some of his previous albums. Kudos also to the mixing engineer who got the mixes well balanced and the tones of the individual instruments stand out in contrast! I also liked the contrasting bluesy guitar stylings of Ben and also the other musicians.
The only grouse I have is that the album contains no originals. But then again, Hank had a lot of ground to catch up with covers. I vote that we petition him to release albums more frequently.

Hi Kay
Haven't got the album yet (I'll get it when I'm in the UK in August) but it's advertised with Russian Doll as being a new composition with Ben.
Do agree though it would be nice to have more than one.

Thank you for that Kay I have downloaded it to listen to it later as I would struggle to find time to listen to it all in one go.

Hi Kay - Thank you so much for the link to the interview. It's the 1st and only interview with Hank I've heard with reference to "Without a Word". This means a lot to me as I am gradually covering all his brilliant tracks with help from my son Andrew making the BT's. For me it's the best CD from Hank since Guitar Player (the acoustic album). I love all the tracks and looking forward to covering the rest of them. 8 covered so far - a YT playlist if anyone interested. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTZdz_AB2LI&list=PLvhFslBIpUKW-aXjnO1Sh-6O0Z6PvcNEgCheers Phil
