Hi Roger, I bought the Boss Katana 100-112 a couple of months ago and very impressed with the different variation of tones, the weight and size and price of this boss amp. I also like the acoustic channel. Thanks for sharing your info, I am enjoying experimenting with the tone centre software. It is giving my ac15 heritage a rest. Its quite amazing how close the non tube amp gets. A friend of mine bought the 50 and is quite happy with it. Regards Carl.

Hi Roger
These are great will certainly take a look. Ive had the Katana 50 for a couple of months now and use it for rehearsals and shadows clubs etc. It is a fantastic piece of kit and i found even with the normal clean channel i could get really close to an AC30 so will be interested to see how these compare. Thanks for sharing.

I have a Katana too I have experimented getting a Shadows sound with it. The crunch setting on zero gain was close but it distorted too much, so I mostly use the clean with a slight boost which I believe is a Boss blues driver. I know of the sneaky amps where you can get a Vox into a preset via Boss tone studio. Boss haven't officially announced that "sneaky amps" function, perhaps they will down the track Matthew

Mine is used solely now i no longer have an AC30. Im considering adding the head to my collection and getting a 2x12 vox cab for gigs with my band.

I'm in the process of building an AC30 replica cab and will probably just mount the Katana amp chassis and speakers in it. A lightweight cab made from 12mm ply would be ideal.

I think this will be my 4th one. They're a labour of love with all the string lines and piping etc. I'll see once I've got this one done!

I would recommend you look at the Sneaky amps library as the Vox (Lead) is in there and it is a Crunch tone and I have checked it against Vox amp sounds and it is about right Thanks for the info on this Roger. Do you know if the Vox (Sneaky Amp) persists? I know it does when I switch off and on again but what if I accidentally turn the AMPLIFIER knob? Does it then revert to one of the standard amps? Phil.

Well, I jumped on the bandwagon and my Katana 50 arrived yesterday. First impressions are good, the acoustic setting is ok, not as good as my Marshal AS50, but better than other non acoustic guitar amps. Only played through the clean channel a little and spent some time downloading the software for the Boss Tone Control and updating the amp firmware. I’m not very ‘techie’, so I’m sure I’m going to struggle with the BTC, but I’ll give it a try.

My friend recently bought one of these amps and is very pleased with it. Lots of sounds and effects and little in the way of weight. No wonder Steve got rid of his AC30.
However, I have a question:
Playing around with pc’s to get tones and downloading amp sims and patches can’t be everyone’s cup of tea. So, does anyone simply use a Joyo AC pedal with a Katana and if so does it sound any good through this type of amp?
Cheers
MICK

Hi Mick
I don't do any of that now. After messing around with sneaky amps etc i went back to the normal clean channel and preferred it myself so that is what i use now no pc required.

Hello Steve,
Thanks for that. I have heard some of your sound files and they have really good tones, ( not to mention excellent playing). On the back of what you say I think I will compare one of these to my Vox AC15 C1, using my pedal board on each. I may be able to save a bit of weight and retrieve a bit of cash.
That said, I wonder how either amp will react to Charlie’s new effect that we are all waiting for and which set up will be best.
Cheers.
Mick

Yeah same, I tried sneaky amps, but clean with maybe a slight boost will get you there, I've also experimented with the opposite crunch setting and reducing some gain when hooked up to the computer on the parametric eq Mathew

Hi Roger. Many thanks for your message - its very much appreciated. I would like to check a few things to make sure I understand everything before re-setting my amp.
General EQ settings: -15. -15- -15. -8 0 0 0 0 0 -8
Compressor: +/- 22. any suggestions for the Attack. Tone. Level. settings?
Patch 1? For Top Boost as above but 2Khz at +9? EQ volume at +12. Crunch Channel No gain Mids on 30
Patch 2? Add slight gain for early AC15. (So settings as above but slight gain added?)
Channel volume at 100 (For each Patch?) did you use the “Crunch” channel for each patch? Patch 3? Early Top Boost: Treble at 12o'clock. Bass at 35% (On the amp)
Patch 4? Later Top Boost: Treble at 30%. Bass Full. (On the amp)
Have I got it right? I'm looking forward to hearing the results on my amp. Hopefully I can organise that tomorrow.
Many thanks, Dave

Hi I’ve found on mine you can use the clean channel with The built in blues driver boost, but the crunch channel is closer to the sound, you just have to be careful with the gain Matthew
