Just been to see Talon at Armagh Marketplace Theatre last night--must be the 4th or 5th time!--What a band!--those guys just ooze musicality--perform the Eagles just as well as the orginals (I've seen them live a couple of times too)--highly recommended if you get the chance--worth a visit!! David

Yup! 100% agree. Seen "Talon" a few times and they are simply The Best Eagles tribute band around. We live in a modern,ex-WW2 airfield urban village with a 70's built modern Village Hall. In a rush of blood a few years ago. The Council booked Talon to play a one- nighter. They were superb and I've seen them a couple of times since. No massive 1,000,000 watt "wall of sound" - it was loud enough to fill your ears but not so loud that it pinned you to the back wall.
Unfortunately the following month they hired a well-known Queen tribute band who did just that. As a Player, I'm used to loud music but this was ridiculously over the top. By halfway through their first Set, Rows1-10 were empty and the occupants were stood at the back of the Hall. We were about 2/3rds back and even there the volume really hurt. At half-time I had a quick word with the guy on the Mixer Desk about dropping the output just a little because it was so loud. I explained that I was a Live music Player and could see that the sound was driving people away. The answer was succinct - 'Thats what its always set at. F--- off". So we did. I always wonder how many went back in for the second half. Ian

Not only a great band but great blokes, too! A few years ago, the rhythm guitarist from my 60s band organised a modest musical afternoon at a local village hall, just for a few musos, friends and family and mentioned it to one of the Talon guys with whom he was acquainted. They all turned up on the day and wowed everyone there with a knockout set of pure Eagles.

Hello David,
I haven't seen Talon, but I have seen a band here in the South called the “ illegal Eagles” and they are very good too. Mind you the Eagles themselves always played so well and their tunes were so well arranged and presented, with such a full sound, what’s not to like. My band only play one Eagles tune, Taking it Easy, because there is only so much a four man band can do. I will look out for their name in case they come my way.
Ian,
I went with a friend to see a reincarnation of Thin Lizzy at the Westcliff Theatre, Southend, a couple of years ago, fronted by Scott Gorham. It was ridiculously loud with too much distortion, so much so that people were walking out, as we did. l don’t think some professional bands realise just how important the sound men are in these shows.
Cheers
Mick

I haven't heard the Illegal Eagles Mick --a shame because they're a lot more local to me than Talon--I do know that they are reported to be excellent and cover Fleetwood Mac tunes too --great advantage of having a female vocalist in the lineup methinks!! Regards David
