I've only just noticed that I'd received a prompt reply to a PM I'd sent to another member several weeks ago. Silly me but I hadn't seen the circled no.1 against the Messages heading at the top of the page.
I thought that in my Profile settings I'd ticked a box asking to be notified by email when someone sends me a PM but I never received such an email for this one. I've checked my Edit Profile Settings and under the Notifications>Personal Messages Tab the check box is ticked under the Forum heading and under the email heading the'smart' option is showing.
With these settings, should I be receiving email notifications of PMs? What does 'smart' mean?
Help will be appreciated!

Hi Tony,
According to proboards -
"Smart - only emails you once per item on the forum until you've viewed the item you're being notified about. So if you were notified about a thread you wouldn't receive any further updates about that thread until you visited the forum and viewed the thread."
So, it looks as if you should get one email. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to test it by PMing myself; the system recognises that I don't need notifying if I sent it in the first place.
I would change the setting to instant.
