Anybody had to transfer programs to a new computer?..........there are commercially available products which are expensive. I only need to transfer one item which is the Sonar LE application. Baz

If you don't have the installation disks etc you can probably only do this by creating a disk image. There is free software available that will do this but it's quite complex and not for the faint hearted! However, you may just be able to copy the DAW program from your programs folder onto a USB drive and then copy it onto your new hard drive. That would only work if the DAW doesn't need to write to your new computers registry though.

Hi Guys...........unfortunately I cant locate the original disc which came with my Boss BR800............its just shown as Sonar LE on my old PC..........I tried Boss support centre but they do not stock the DVD_ROM which came with the unit and Cakewalk (Sonar) are now virtually defunct. Baz

OK, I don't have SONAR myself, so bare with me.
Do you have a cakewalk account? I think you must have had originally to register it. If so, try logging onto the cakewalk website.
Does SONAR display the serial number and 'redemption' code somewhere when you run it? If so, copy them and try using them for your install on the new computer.
On a cakewalk forum the answer to a similar question is telephone them.
As already suggested, just try to copy it onto the new computer (but I suspect it won't work).
Let us know how you get on, it's a pain when this happens.

Hi Bill...............Cakewalk and Sonar seem to be virtually defunct since Gibson bought them out...............I tried writing all the files to a UBS stick and then transferred them onto the C drive of my new PC........but Sonar wouldn't launch properly. I've decide to opt for REAPER which is highly rated and only costs $40 for a home use licence. Thanks for your help. Regards Baz

Regards Baz Yeah, The cakewalk website seems OK but they seem to have abandoned SONAR in favour of other software. If you can do that it'll probably save a lot of hassle. Bill

Baz,
Have you tried Audacity? A lot of people fight shy of it, thinking it's too basic, but it's being developed all the time, and it's good Open Source software. Won't cost you anything to try.

Hi Len..............I've used Audacity quite a lot for final polishing of a song and converting WAV to Mp3 files.
Considering that its free its a great piece of kit but it does not have one particular feature I need.
I currently use a BOSS BR800 for most of my recordings (which is a great portable 4 track recorder amongst its other features), but the feature which Audacity doesn't support is that the BOSS can be linked to a PC and act as a control surface for all the major functions. Amongst hardware recording units I think the only other unit offering this is ZOOM 24.
Amongst the major DAW systems REAPER is the most cost effective I can find that has this capability.
Thanks for your input.
Regards
Baz

If you have an account with Cakewalk you can download the files from the website.
Gibson have stopped updates/development for the software but while the website is still up and running you can access your account and download all the files.

Hi Baz Reaper is a great choice, but it is also worth looking at Ardour which is also freeware: www.ardour.org/features.htmlThis is quite advanced and Harrison Consoles use it for the front end of their Mixbus DAW mixer interface. I have checked and if you look at routing on this link, it should be able to do what you want, it seems very similar to Reaper. www.ardour.org/features.htmlGary

Thanks guys.............I do have a cakewalk account which I haven't accessed for sometime...........when I eventually got into it sure enough it showed my product registered as Sonar X1 LE and offered a "Mirror image " download. This got to within the last few seconds of completing when a "Access denied" message appeared and aborted the whole thing. I've sent Cakewalk a message asking what's up. Gary ........will checkout Ardour if necessary...Thanks Baz
