Hi all Anyone struggling with palm muting I recommend the highwood saddles, I’ve just fitted them and so far they work really well, apart from having a better string lay and longer Grove where the string comes out of the block The height adjustment studs don’t come out of the top of the saddle so there’s no restrictions. I have waited a while to post to give them a good try in case the smooth top was to smooth but so far they are good

You adjust them the same as normal stratocaster saddles Where the usual saddles finish these double back underneath and the grub screw screws into the bottom part you adjust them the same through the top If that makes sense Mick

Hello Mick,
These look as though they solve the problem of screws sticking up way above the saddle. Well done on a great find. Can you tell where you bought them and the price, I would like to buy some?
Cheers
Mick

I was looking at them for a week before I put them on I had just fitted a set of expensive strings on when I came across them i forget how now I had intended on waiting longer but they kept looking at me. I was a bit wary in case they were to sensitive but I have no such issue and will fit them on my other guitars They are good quality the proper hardness and not that expensive Mick

I have to say that they look 'andsome.
An alternative solution to the problem of protruding saddle screws sticking in your palm when muting is to buy a set of them that are various lengths. Alan Brason did this when building my Strat back in 2007 and none of the screws protrude. However, on my Harley-Benton they are, physically, a real pain, so will check these saddles out. Cheers Ian

Where the string comes through the block and through the saddle the slot is longer so the string runs over the saddle and doesn’t catch on the front edge of the slot less friction points can only be a good thing also I have found, my Strat at least didn’t go out of tune as much. I like that it has a string groove. They haven’t just bent a piece of metal the hardness has also been taken into account Let me know how you get on

Thanks for the heads up on these. I’ve just ordered myself a set. Hopefully with these and a new set of Elixir strings my playing ‘might’ improve.
Tim.

Hi Mick. These saddles seem like a good idea. However, I did the same as Ian and bought adjusting screws of different lengths. Dave

Thanks for posting this Mick. I`ve had my eyes on these for a while but haven`t got around to getting them yet, I`m waiting until my strings need replacing. I like the groove for the string, I don`t know why Fender don`t have it on theirs anyway, I couldn`t find them anywhere in Aus` so, I`ll be getting them directly from Highwood Guitar Parts. If anyone`s interested, here`s the link to their site. www.highwood-guitarparts.com/Cheers Adrian

Hi Aidrian Tim Dave I’ve had them a while I was just trying a set of long life strings out or would have fitted them sooner. I had a repair man in for the PC who spent 30 minutes on the PC and 2 hours on my Strat, after an hour he said he was tempted to file his screws down to size on his saddles and may do it now as mine feel great he had taken his glasses off he also wanted my stratocaster and I had to turn quite a good offer down. When I showed him the saddles he didn’t leave until he had ordered 3 sets. I had better get ordering some more before they go Let me know what you think when you put youres on Mick

Hi George It was the groove why I sent for them and not just the screws, I didn’t really notice any problems with tuning stability before but I am aware now another pleasant improvement. Another reason why I was a bit hesitant on fitting them was If set correctly the screws sticking out on the originals can act like a stay but this again is not an issue. Mick

Yes I keep meaning to order one I’ve put the 2nd string tree on all my strays was fed up of the dull sound on the G string It does look like a lot of strain on one fixing point No doubt I’ll give them a go I do think these saddles are worth changing
