Hello everybody.
I thought I would look into getting a tuner app. for my ‘phone for those odd occasions when a proper tuner is not at hand. It will primarily be for guitar, but could be used also for bass, mandolin or ukelele.
Well, I’m amazed at just how many there are on offer. So, could I ask those of you that have one of these new fangled gizmo’s on their ‘phone already, if you could offer some advice , suggestions or better still recommendations.
Thanks in anticipation.
Mick

Hello Ian,
I had been wondering if anybody made a tuning “App” for some time and It was in fact a recent Fender advert that prompted me to look into getting one. However Fender seem to have quite a few on offer and of course there is a Mirriad of others, hence my query.
Now I know which one to have a look at.
Oh, I like sound of the ‘phone...........but do you have to stand in a particular way.......?
Regards and cheers

Hi Mick, I've been using a Peterson "Stomp" Strobe Tuner for almost year now and find it not only extremely accurate, but very reliable and easy to use. I haven't actually tried one myself, but their mobils software app looks pretty interesting and the reviews are nearly all 5 star rated! www.petersontuners.com/products/istrobosoft/Hope this might be of interest. Regards Gary

Fender free mobile tuner app is fine.
I upgraded to the Pro version for 0.89p worth every penny. Great accurate Pro tuner. For under a £1...

Well, it’s thanks to Ian really, I looked at the Fender offering, thought it looked very good and bought it. Like you George, I bought the extras.
Thanks for you reply Gary. Peterson products have a good name, but i’m Sorted now.
Call me old fashioned if you like, but impressive as the meter arrangement on the app.is I expect I will be using the open notes that can be played more often than not.
Thanks again everyone
Cheers

Hi Mick If you want a good tuner..this is the one I use. You can have it free at the Play store (Android) and if you pay 2$...you get the more advanced version.
It is called PitchLab Pro...in the pro version you can tune bass, guitar, mandolin etc..
But you can't 'Tun a Fish'!!! Have fun Sheendigs

Hello Sheendi*s,
Very droll, well done.
Hello George,
I just bought the lot so anything and everything will be on hand. Particularly, I like the very easy metronome, which enables a quick record to be made of the speed a song was played at by the band for use another “time”. You know what it’s like when the count in is a bit too fast or worse a bit too slow and the tune labours along.
Cheers

You don’t need an App, there is a barrell full of tuners on the you tube, some you can download free.👍

Hello shawbridge. Thanks for your suggestion here.Yes you are right, I expect I could have found one of the free ones that suited me. But which one? It’s because there are so many I thought I would go by recommendation - and was soon satisfied with a Fender tuner. Alright it cost a few quid to uprate and free is better but I feel I’ve got the job done now.
Gary, I’ve just had a look at that video and it answered some questions for me . For ever I have been using a Boss Tu12. And it has been great, still works, though it is not to hand as easily as a mobile phone. For years I have been tuning up with the meter needle off centre for certain notes because that made things sound better to me. I wondered if the meter was not showing true. Now it seems that I’m not alone in that “wrong” is “right” as far as tuning is concerned. Seems I have been doing the sweet tuning without knowing it!!!
Nice unit, bit pricey, but I’ll stick with the one I have now. Thanks for your comments though.
Best regards both
Mick

Hi Mike,
You're absolutely right, I had a professional friend who would always take my finely tuned guitar and tweak it, this really annoyed me because it actually sounded better and I couldn't quite figure out what he was doing. I'm not sure he even knew, it was just one of those things that he did instinctively by ear!
The app version of the Peterson Strobe is about £9.00, so not overly expensive, although the standard non clip on Peterson strobes are around £120.00!
If mine packed up tomorrow I would have no hesitation in getting another, having said that it's probably the most robust tuner I've ever had.

Hello Gents, thanks for your comments. I may well be fixed up now, but I’m sure there will be many who would like to see other recommendations in this market where there are so many offerings.
Cheers
