I was wondering when Bruce Welch got his first electric guitar? There is an early album with him holding a Telecaster on the front , all the old footage I’ve seen he plays a Stratocaster. He has Hanks original now that he borrowed/ pinched off Cliff Matthew

I’m not well up on Bruce’s guitars but I know it was late on when he got a Stratocaster, possibly61, certainly had it for the young ones film. There is an early photo of cliff and the shads in Cliffs front room and a Bruce has a semi acoustic electric, same on’ I think as used’ in Expresso Bongo 1959. I was told many years ago by a reliable source that the telecast hanging on the chair on the first lp, was borrowed but can’t confirm that. There is early footage on you tube with cliff and shads performing to a live audience and Bruce is playing a telecaster not the jazz master as we often saw him play. Pete

I think Jennings Musical Industries gave the Shads new guitars in the 60's which is where I first saw Hank playing a Rose Wood finger board Strat, I think Bruce got the same but not sure Pete

There's footage with Bruce on the telecaster and on the Jazzmaster before that he was playing on a white semi hollow guitar. Just a few simple YT clicks give you all you want.
Cheers Rob

Bruce Welch did pay a few times with a Tele in the early sixties, there are some videos from TV shows which confirms it, and I saw him with one on stage at the Paris Olympia in 1961. But he certainly never owned one or recorded with it.
