I recently bought a set of Kinman Avn 62's on the well known auction site. I fitted them into a pick guard, but upon testing, the middle one doesn't work. My guitar tech tells me the winding is damaged in a couple of places. Does anyone know someone who could/would repair this for me please?
Cheers

How would he know it's damaged in a "couple" of places? check with a loupe first from the soldered ends, to see if there's a break or a dry joint.

FWIW Jontie, I did this to a Kinman FV pickup once and only Chris Kinman could or would repair it. As I recall it came back pretty quickly and wasn't an expensive repair but who knows how long it might take these days. Any chance you getting your money back? Ian

Hi Phil, thank you for your reply. I've sent you a couple of pic's. Ian, thank you for your reply. Money back no longer an option I'm afraid, I've had them for over 30 days. I did suspect Chris Kinman may be the only option, but, fingers crossed.

Phil, thank you for the advice. I have ,this morning, received an email from Kinman giving me instructions and diagrams on how to resolder the joints.

A friend of mine, own a small firm called ToneSpinner. He repaired dozens of pu's in a month and make his own brand pu's. He told me Kinman pu's are a class on their own and they use special methods to get the pickups as they are. Only after Kinmans patent in the USA has expired, Fender noisless pu's got 100% better then before... So my advise is send it to Kinman to get the result you need, they can repair the pu and or exchanged parts...

The problem I had was where the wire from the bobbin to the switch Was soldered it wasn’t a good connection so I re heated the solder and it was ok Has happened on a couple of kinmans

The soldered part actually on the pickup that is, how I fount it was With the pickups plugged into the amp I move the wire while tapping on the pole pieces. It has happened on more than one kinman pickups. When I was setting them up originally it says you can set them closer to the strings as normal, what I didn’t realise was that the wire into the pickup was pushed down by the pick guard and thus broke the joint. I would have thought the soldered joint to be stronger but not being a pickup Maker I wouldn’t know for sure. This has happened on more than one set. I don’t go as close now also I make sure there isn’t enough wire sticking up It goes into the pickup and bends back down to the soldered joint it’s the top of the bend that hits the pick guard. If that makes sense like I say I’m no expert
