This morning I've received the devastating news of the death of Eric Thacker.
Eric bought a smile to many over a great number of years. His prowess with a guitar was legendary. His creativity with video and audio absolutely splendid.
To say that he will be missed in so many ways goes without saying. This sad news obviously comes as a great shock to everybody and to the multitudes of close friends who had the great pleasure of counting him as a friend. And especially the people who got to play music with him.
I know you'll join me in sending deepest condolences to Eric's family. And in particular his wife Chrissie who is a beautiful lady both inside and out.
R.I.P. old pal. Thanks for so many memories and laughs. And, of course, the music
Alan Bakewell.

Wow. This is awful news. I never met Ecca personally - but we spoke often on email. He was always trying to get me involved with one of his expansive - multi country - collaborations!! How I wish now that I had found the time to do one. He always had fierce energy and a wicked sense of humour - pulling no punches. He was also an excellent guitarist by the way - and his personality shone through in his playing too.
2021 has not been a good year for the Community...
Rest in peace Eric.

I am shocked and heartbroken to have spoken with Bakey w ho told me of my mate Ecca's passing. NO, heartbroken doesn't cut it. Ecca was there, a founder member, when I first went to Hankies in 2005, relearning from years past. He helped me no end, his quirky humour making us all laugh out loud often, his Victor Borg guitar style often outrageous. Of course he could play them all, could play anything , perfectly. His Spinning Leaf videos were clever and always interesting. I am saddened beyond belief. God Rest You, my friend. Ian (St Peter - No, Ecca, you cant play The Savage on me 'arp!!)

El Planto, me old pal. I sat and listened intently to that excellent rendition of "Abide with me". A favourite of any reasonably minded churchgoing upstanding member of the community.
The mood was right, the tone, ( acoustic guitar, a splendid sound ). Where on earth was the full on valve distortion two thirds of the way through. I sat and waited, and I sat and waited.
You do know if he was here now he'd be giving you what for. Fancy missing an opportunity like that.
I'm willing to bet, wherever he is, he's got a big smile on his face knowing that he was loved by all who'd ever known him.
God bless, Alan.

Hi Alan, Very shocked and saddened to hear this news of Ecca. Heartfelt condolences to his family from myself, Gary and Paul! He was such a great character and lover of music and loved to be involved internationally in getting the music and the players together. My most famous example of that is his approach to me and Peter Korving to collab. on the classic Ozzie song..."Waltzing Matilda". Here is my tribute to Ecca: youtu.be/91Uq3Gzpi7o

He looks like he was being unusually normal in that video Spike, what a character, so sad that he has gone.

Well respected chap who was known to many. I only met him twice, once at a brief visit to Hankies and more recently to sell him a piece of gear. Sad news is happening all too often these days.
Paul.
