Would you believe I gave one of those away in the 60s? Great unit but unfortunately not suitable for Shadows music so there won't be a lot of interest here. I'd buy it again out of sentiment but not at that price.

they were pretty suitable for shadows music in the 60s len, most of us on here will remember the first time we played apache thro one and stuck our chests out!listen at me! not worth the money some think they are now though.

I remember playing Shadows tunes in the early 60's without any echo, mainly because I couldn't afford one, but on one gig, the other band let me use their Copycat, the difference as you can imagine was mind blowing, today, maybe the only reason to buy one, especially at that price would be for nostalgia. My first amp, a Dominator, is also pricey, I've seen them go for £2500 + My first electric guitar (Watkins Rapier 33) today is quite low in price compared to the big names, I bought one a few years ago

There is a VST based on this model which I posted previously. Its been brought out by waves factory and its called 'Echo Cat'. I haven't tried it but I might download the demo version. www.wavesfactory.com/#track-selector-4

I have two instances of Echo Cat plugin in an Ableton Live “rack” running in parallel which gives me the option of using up to 6 heads (each with level adjustment), on all the controls I want to act in common as a single echo I assigned them to macros so both plugins synchronise those settings simultaneously. I then saved the whole “rack” as a hybrid echo for general use, which so far seems to work fine.

I played Apache on it myself Andy, and thought I was the man himself. But we've learned an awful lot about echoes now and most of us are using Charle's EFTP, which we all know the Copycat can't emulate. I'd still love one (at a more suitable price) but if I want to play any Shadows tracks I've got other units that do a better job.

I had a Copycat and a Dominator and our rhythm player had a Westminster. But my guitar was a Burns Vibra Artiste and his was a Futurama 2. When the group folded I was saving up to get married and still living in my parents' council flat, where I had no chance of playing them so in a fit of pique I let them go for a song. I'm still kicking myself

Len, if only we knew then what we do today!
BTW, my Dominator also doubled as PA, trouble was, when the singer hit a loud note, my guitar cut out, it was a good experience though, playing the Rapier after all those years.

Hello Phil,
Yes, I remember them, but I thought the tremolo arm was a bit too responsive for my heavy hand. So, My weapon of choice was a Hofner V3. ( model 172). You may remember these, they had wide striped position markers that made your eyes go funny when you tried to figure what position you were playing in!!! Recently had mine serviced because a pickup went dead, don’t think i’ll Part with it yet though. I hearsay that with its original shaped case, which is still in good condition, it could fetch about £900.

The only ones I can find today are with three dot markers Mick but I remember wide stripes, you would get a higher price with an original case, but they are what they are, here's my Rapier with my BT recorded many years ago, not a bad sound considering the pickupd etc. app.box.com/s/vilyxak6knemjdtvd6y4Phil

The Copicat was ok at the time....for those that couldn’t afford a Binson or a Meazzi....just about everyone including me......the early models didn’t have an erase head...instead there was a bar magnet in the spring jockey wheel assembly....did wonders for the noise to signal ratio ( pun intended ) I picked up one of the Shadow valve reincarnations with 5 heads in the 90’s.....only used it on a couple of gigs though....compared to my Korg SE500 Stage Echo it was too noisy..... Watkins Joker was a rare combo at the time and had a Copicat built in.....and a telescopic mic stand......wow !!!! I had 10watt Westminster which served me well until the Vox Supertwin came along.... Ian Plant had a very early Copicat brand new......we spent many hours tweaking the primitive controls...... cheers, Paul...

The switches are off a Pifco hairdryer, my wife still has one but not used these days. Snap I traded in my Dominator for a Vox Supertwin, but I had the none top boost model so had to use a Rangemaster treble booster, which today are reproduced but an original costs a mint, come to think of it, the repro's are not cheap seeing what's in them! Hi Paul...well, for lead, even the bright channel wasn't bright enough but the Rangemaster sorted it, I have a picture of my Supertwin in use, I'll dig it out.
BTW, the pickup coils on the Rapier are nothing like the typical ones we know today like a Strat, on the Rapier it's just a loop of coiled wire placed loosely into the housing and around the magnets!
