Hi Folks,
I'm a newbie to the forum, so treat me gently. I have followed the Shads music since they started, and saw them (with Cliff) several times in the early sixties, and also on October 3rd in Birmingham this year. I have a 1979 USA Strat and was wondering what is the preferred make and string gauge that you guys are using to play Shadows music? I currently use Hybrids (9 - 46's) which I find quite good.
Also I use the MagicStomp with the Shadows patches from 'Goran's' website. Are Charlie's patches much different? If so where can I obtain them from?
Regards Roger

Hello dyker124, Welcome to the forum. I'm a newbie here myself and you have found your way to a very friendly and informative board. For the shadows style echo's Charlie has written patches for a number of pedals/rack units which can be found here: charliehall.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1110As for the string gauge, the general consensus seems to be heavy with wire wound third string, there are quite e few threads on this and its worth spending a bit of time looking around. I hope you enjoy it here Kind regards grip

Thanks grip,
I'm surprised at the w/w third, but I suppose with heavy gauge strings, it wiil be. Thanks for the information on the patches.

Hi Roger, Welcome to the site. I don't think anyone should expect rough treatment here, I won't allow it. Those who post soundfiles are given honest opinions that are usually designed to help, and not be criticised for no reason. The recommendation for a wound third is because that is what Hank would have used on the early hits. As far as I know Hank does not use a wound third now even though he uses up to three different gauges for live playing, basically 10s (for easier string bending), 11s (for most normal playing), and 12s (for the earlier hits). I use a plain third with similar gauges to yourself, have a listen to my soundfiles of Trail Of Tears, Theme From Giant and Find Me A Golden Street, then see what you think of the sounds. Regards, Charlie
