Hi All,
I have a MagicStomp (with Charlie's patches), and a Roland Cube 30X Amplifier. I am using the 'Dry' channel at the moment with the bass, middle, and treble set to the 12 o'clock position and no reverb. Does anyone know if this is the ideal set-up, or should any of the above be tweaked a bit (for Shadows instrumentals)?
Regards Roger

Hi Roger, I haven't tried a Cube amp so I am not sure if it has a traditional guitar EQ or whether it has cut and boost controls. I have seen other Roland amps that had the traditional type so maybe the Cube has them too. If so you can try this, first set your middle control to minimum, then set the treble for the sweet spot, then bring up the mids until the sound is warm enough, then adjust the bass to balance the low notes with the higher notes, for early Shadows sounds you want lower bass than later Hank and Shadows sounds. it would be interesting to know whether you end up with roughly your original settings by doing this, if so, then you may have them about right. The best setting is for the nearest you can get to what you want to hear, and can vary from one guitar to another. Regards, Charlie

HI roger & all ,, it is interesting that you have a cube amp I am not familiar with them ''but'' last year I took a holiday from sth australia to western australia and was invited to the ''perth-music-club's monthly ''jig-night'' and among the excellent guitarist's was gary-taylor. gary is the fellow who develop's the ''UB-HANK'' CD's & also play's rythm for hank-marvin at times in perth ,, and you may have seen him play on the video clips posted here by ''spike'' some time back now [sound-file-section] he is brilliant.... Back to the cube !!! on the particular jij-night that I was at,,, he was playing through a little-roland-cube-amp & the sound was exellent ,HE played a strat into a tvs1,into a Q2 ,into this ''cube'' .. Earlier on that night ''paul ,[the designer-builder of the tvs's] was telling me how good a sound gary get's from this little roland cube amp ,& he was right it was really great!!! On the night there there were quite a few ac30's paul's ac15 ,but gary's sound was right up there with all those... I think gary's is an older one what model etc I do not know? IT is so easy to transport & that's maybe gary's reason for using one? ?? I have a picture that I will find & post of it... If paul read's this message he will know what model it is? ?& may comment!! CHEERS-barry..[PS] I managed to find the picture .. this is the roland-cube -that gary used that night ,I might add that he is a ''wizard-on-the-guitar'' !! Which model cube ?? I don't know but the sound was great!!!

Thanks Charlie,
I will try as you say and see what the differences are. I will record something soon and post it, so that you can have an idea how it sounds.
Hoadlies,
Thanks for the info. My Cube 30X is about 2 years old. It is black and looks about the same size as the one in the picture. I will take a photo of it and post it.
Regards Roger

HI ROGER.... I think your's is more modern ,has it a 12'' speaker? ??. I feel the one gary has, does not have any effect's ,just a plain amp with a 12'' speaker ... I will try to find out a bit more about it ,but it surely sounded just great fed by the Q2 etc ... CHEERS all .......................barry..

Hi Barry,
The speaker is a 10". It is a really solid robust amp with lots of features. I am very pleased with it.
Best regards Roger

Hi Guy's, I have been using the Roland Cube for a couple of years, started with the 30 and about 8 months ago moved up to the 60, a fantastic amp in my opinion. I use the JC clean setting and tube modulation, as far as the bass and treble settings its personal choice, I mentioned somewhere before that on a lot of the early Shadows numbers I add more reverb from the cube, and it really does give that little extra to reproduce the 60's sound Hank achieved.
The big benefit to me is the weight of the unit, no more 80lb vox's to haul around and this little beast has so much punch to it that you feel you have a Vox on the other end anyway.
All the best Steve Toronto

Hi Steve,
Glad you like the Roland Cube. I bet the 60 is very nice. Since I only play at home nowadays, the 30 does me fine, it packs quite a punch. Do you use the 60 on stage?

Hi Roger,
Indeed I do, it's miked up for the larger venue's, or when you drummer reckon's he is animal from the muppets, but does not require that in smaller venue's as the sound carry's really well, I guess a lot to do with the Magicstomp or as with me the Q2 and the EFTP patches, they ring out above any other musicians attempt to drown you out.
Some time ago I posted a few numbers the band did in our rehearsal space, not sure where they went to in the sites filing system, but they were all recorded using the cube, a great amp it is, especially for the price, and the modeling system has some great blues sounds.
I use the 20 now for home rehearsal, I said above it was a 30 but that was a typo, and I barely go above 20% volume before the wine glasses start rattling. Regards Steve Toronto

Hi Steve, The site is not able to host files, it can only link to them from another file sharing site such as 4shared for sound files, and YouTube for videos. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, Yes the posting was a link to 4shared mate, but it did not receive any comment so I guess it dropped off the list of sound files posted, guess I had better do some better ones eh :-) Regards Steve

Hi Steve, OK. As far as I know no one would have deleted the posting(s), I certainly didn't. I haven't seen evidence of any other posts going missing except old ads that need deleting. You could try posting again. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, I found the posting on page 12 I believe, however, like all efficient musicians I let the 4 shared lapse so the file is no longer available, guess its start all over again eh? Regards Steve

Hi Steve, Or you could edit the original post with the new link, although in that case it probably won't go to the top of the list unless you add a new message to that thread. Regards, Charlie
