Thanks Sheendigs, have seen this before, but think it might be a little technical for me as never worked with valves before. I might see how Charlie's new ef86 pedal goes first as does not seem likely anyone does the addon ef86 preamp.
I could use the master volume with channel volume to get more gain from the 12AX7 preamp and get it a bit like . But I suspect it would not quite be the same sound. Maybe that could be good enough though ? The EF86 basically is a higher gain valve than a 12AX7, so driving the preamp volume would boost the gain, but likely harmonics and other things come into play.

Roger Baylis, I use one on my AC30 and very good indeed, in fact used it last night at our first Gig in 19 months, I think I will be investing in Charlie’s EF86 also, I use the H&C and it’s fabulous. I think mine was originally put together by Roger Alcock but not 100% sure, what I am told is he no longer produces them, no doubt I will be corrected if that not be the case. Peter

I am pretty sure Roger Allcock no longer does them any more. I had the AC30 HW Heritage about 12 years back, which had the EF86 channel and it sounded great, but I sold it on as was heavy. Brilliant sound though.

For several years I made EF86 (vintage units) for Vox AC30 amps which were able to be fitted by the owner. I did actually fit some for people including Phil Kelly and Colin Pryce-Jones.
I stopped making them quite a while ago mainly due to the fact that Vox amps were being made using different circuitry. In my opinion that made them unsuitable both from an ease of fitting point of view and more importantly the fact that they would not be achieving the sound that was produced by the early amps which used the EF86 valve.
