Hi All ! I hope you are well. Some years ago, the subject surfaced of rolling off bass frequencies (aka ‘high pass filter’) to enable closer emulation of Hank’s early sound. There was the ARIAB (‘Abbey Road in a box’), P. Bastien’s P.B. box, the Cirrus Engineering Gemini lll pedal, and our own Charlie Hall’s Cutting Edge 4 stage Bass Rolloff filter design. I’ve tried the last 3 of them, and they’re all effective. In fact I made the Cutting Edge myself from parts I bought from Maplin, when they still ran High Street shops. The Cutting Edge is a passive (no battery) filter and inevitably because of impedance mismatch as well as circuitry, saps volume. It was a bit of a prob for me. Now I’ve just discovered the cheapest way to remedy this is using a TC Rush clean vol boost pedal, £40 new from Amazon. Stick ‘em both in series between your H&CSE and your amp, and jobs a good ‘un. I don’t know if Charlie’s Cutting Edge circuit is still available on this site, but it’s v cheap indeed to make, in a metal screened box, and because it doesn’t use a battery itself, you’re unlikely to fry that 60s Strat and Vox AC30.

Hi milko, The Cutting Edge doesn't sap volume so much as it saps bass, which it is supposed to do. However it will only do this well if connected between buffered devices. It should not be connected direct from a guitar. I remember always recommending connecting it between the echo and the amp. Regards, Charlie
